Pierre Nouvel – Wikipedia

New stone , born in Paris in 1981, is a French video and scenographer artist, a resident at the Villa Medici in Rome in 2014-2015 ^{[ first ]} .

Founder of the Transdisciplinary Collective Factoid bringing together videographers, musicians, graphic designers, exhibition commissioners, scenographers, Pierre Nouvel realizes with Jean-François Peyret his first theatrical creation as videographer for The case of Sophie K , a play created in 2005 at the Avignon Festival. This creation initiates a series of collaborations with many directors (Michel Deutsch, Lars Norén, François Orsoni, Arnaud Meunier, Hubert Colas …) and directs his reflection on the interactions between scenic and image space.

In 2007, he collaborated with the composer Jérôme Combier for Black grey , a sound and video installation around the text of Samuel Beckett, L’IMPROMPTU d’OHIO , presented at the Center Pompidou as part of the retrospective dedicated to the Irish author. His approach reveals a narrow correlation between image and space and it is naturally that he turns to scenography.

In 2008 he created the show People , staged by Zabou Breitman and adapted from the documentaries of Raymond Depardon, emergencies and various facts, which wins two Molières, including that of “Best private show” ^{[ 2 ]} . He has since produced many scenographies for the theater, but also for contemporary music, or the opera, with Philippe Calvario for Belshazzar At the Halle 2009 Halle Festival, or the following year at the Korea National Opera, for Idoménéo Directed by Lee Soyoung and led by Myung-Whun Chung.

He presented in 2011 with Jérôme Combier, as part of the Aix en Provence festival, Austerlitz , opera adapted from the novel by W.G Sebald.

His work is also available in the form of installations presented in particular at the Georges Pompidou Center, at the Gaîté Lyrique or at Fresnoy, which presented in February 2013 , Walden Memories, An exhibition designed around Henry David Thoreau’s text following the invitation of Jean-François Peyret. This project then became awarded in a scenic version, Re:Walden , created at the 2013 Avignon Festival.

In 2014 he was a scenographer’s resident at the Academy of France in Rome (Villa Medici), where his work consisted in research on the use of so-called intelligent materials in the scenographic field (memory materials, thermo-chromic pigments , conductive inks …).
