Some mining explorations were carried out in the region around 1896 and 1929. It was the 1948 exploration work which will however push the company Cominco to develop a mine south of the Grand Lac des Escales. So we create the company Pine Point Mines In 1951 [ first ] In order to use lead and zinc deposits. We then consider the Pine point deposit as being the most important known in Canada [ 2 ] .

The construction of the city and the mine began in 1962. The Canadian government therefore built a railway between Roma (located near Grande Prairie in Alberta) and Pine Point between 1963 and 1965. We begin mining around 1964-1965 [ 2 ] . The city is also served by Fort Smith Highway (in) and by an airport.
