Member of the Pakistani people party, he was a deputy from 2002 to 2013. He was also Minister of Water and Energy from 2008 to 2011 in the cabinet of Youssouf Raza Gilani. After the disqualification of the latter by the Supreme Court he became Prime Minister , elected by the National Assembly for the last nine months of mandate in his majority. Like his predecessor, he conflicts with the judiciary and is accused of corruption.

Raja Pervez Ashraf was born in Sanghar, in the Sanghar district, in the south of the Sind province. However, he is from Gujar Khan, located in the district of Rawalpindi, in the north of the province of Pendjab. It comes from a family of landowner in the middle class. Some members of his family have had a political career, such as his uncle who was minister in the 1960s during the presidency of Muhammad Ayub Khan [ first ] .

Raja Pervez Ashraf graduated from the University of Sind in 1970.

Raja Pervez Ashraf was elected three times a deputy in the constituency n O 2 of Rawalpindi after having successively lost the elections of 1990, 1993 and 1997. presenting themselves under the label of the Pakistani people party, this city in the north of the pendjab is indeed not very favorable to its party [ first ] .

During the 2002 elections, he was elected with 46.9% of the vote against five other candidates in the second constituency of Rawalpindi [ 2 ] . During the 2008 elections, he was elected less widely in his constituency. He obtained 38.8% of the votes and beat four other candidates, including the candidate of the Muslim League of Pakistan (Q) who obtained approximately 33.7% of the votes [ 3 ] .

During the 2013 legislative elections, while his party is clearly defeated, he loses his constituency widely by obtaining 29% of the votes against 52% for the candidate of the Muslim League of Pakistan (N) [ 4 ] . However, he found his seat as a deputy for the 2018 legislative elections where he won 38% of the vote against nine other candidates.

After the victory of his party, the Pakistani people party, in the legislative elections of February 2008, Raja Pervez Ashraf joined the ministerial cabinet of Prime Minister Youssouf Raza Gilani as Minister of Water and Energy, until , but he no longer obtains a post after a major ministerial reshuffle [ 5 ] .
