Ralph Ince is an American director, actor and screenwriter born the in Boston (United States) and died on in London (England).

He is one of the pioneers of American cinema, whose career has started at the same time as silent cinema. He also produced three of his films.
Ralph Ince was the brother of the filmmakers John Ince and Thomas H. Ince.

Ralph Waldo Ince was born in Boston, Massachusetts [ first ] , the youngest of three boys and a daughter of English immigrants, John and Emma Ince. Some time after birth, Ince’s family moved to Manhattan, where everyone worked in the theater. His father as a musical agent, his mother, his sister Bertha and his brothers John and Thomas as a director [ 2 ] . Ralph Ince studied art with the designer Dan McCarthy and for a certain time worked as a newspaper designer for the New York World And later, as an illustrator for the review New York Mirror And The Evening Telegram . From time to time, in addition to his career as an actor and director, Ince continued to contribute to cartoons for popular magazines of the time. At the start of his career, he was part of Richard Mansfield’s troop, holding roles in The College Widow And Leg how [ 3 ] , [ 4 ] .

Around 1906, Ince first worked for Winsor McCay, but quickly turned to acting profession and joined the company Vitagraph Studios, where he was noticed for his performances by Abraham Lincoln in a series of short films [ 3 ] , [ 4 ] . Ince began to make films for vitagraph around 1910, a company which he went from 1912, although he continued to play in many of his films and this, throughout his career [ 5 ] . Ince made 171 films between 1910 and 1937 and appeared in around 110 films during the same period [ 6 ] .

Ince got married three times, first with Vitagraph actress Lucille Lee Stewart, sister of actress Anita Stewart. Their fifteen -year wedding was dissolved in 1925, two years after she left him [ 7 ] . The following year, he married Lucille Mendez, an actress in the theater and the screen. This union ended in 1932, after Mendez had claimed that Ince had broken his career by not allowing him to accept certain job offers [ 8 ] . Ince’s last wife is Helen Ruth Tigges, from Frazee, in Minnesota. She is the mother of her only child born a few months before her death at the age of fifty [ 9 ] .

Ralph Ince accidentally dies the , while his car driven by his wife hit a metal barrier near his residence in the Kensington district in London. The strength of the impact turned out to be Fatale to Ince when his head hit the dashboard. Helen Ince was injured and hospitalized. Ince and his wife had gone to Great Britain shortly after their marriage in 1932 to continue working on a film [ 9 ] .
