(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4Construction of the building begins in the second half of the XVI It is Century under the responsibility of the Dutch contracting authority Hendrik van Huwen, after which many architects participated in the successive arrangements of the church, among others Willem Boy, Göran Josuæ Adelcrantz, Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz, Carl Hårleman and finally from 1963 to 1965 Artur von Schmalensee. With its 116 meters high, the Sainte-Claire church is the second highest church in Sweden and Scandinavia. The Sainte-Claire church is located rue Clear western church street In the Stockholms City district. The cemetery, whose limits have hardly changed since the XVII It is century, is practically entirely surrounded by modern constructions. There is a series of vaults built at XVIII It is century. The mortuary chapel dates back to 1889. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4It is at this same location that the Sainte-Claire convent and its church are founded in the 1280s. King Gustave Vasa authorized the demolition of the convent in 1527, only a diptych being preserved. The current church is built under the reign of King John III, who entrusted the site to the Dutch owner Hendrik Van Huwen. He is undoubtedly assisted by Willem Boy, in his capacity as architect of the king. The church is built of bricks. The ground plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, with a polygonal choir and a west side bell tower surmounted by an arrow. The nave is covered with cross vaults. Two sacristies are supported by the north side building, while two polygonal annexes are located on both sides of the bell tower. The nave, the transept and the bell tower were erected in the years 1572 to 1590. The sacristy located on the west side dates back to 1651, and was enlarged in 1835. Agneta Wrede built the south portal, which is adorned with weapons of Wrede and Lillie families [ first ] . The southern staircase was built in 1726, probably on plans ofGöran Josuæ Adelcrantz. In 1751, the church was ravaged by a fire and the reconstruction work took place the following year, under the direction of the superintendent Carl Hårleman. It is then that the north staircase is built, and the roof takes its current appearance. The bell tower and the facades were finalized during a renovation signed Helgo Zettervall in the years 1884 to 1886. The interiors dates back to the works of AGA LINDEGREN in 1906-1907. Olle Hjortzberg takes care of vaults and paintings. The painting at the back of the altarpiece is a work by Jonas Hoffman (1766), the altarpiece itself being due to Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz (1787-1790) and the baptismal font in Thor Thorén (1908). The altarpiece is flanked by two kneeling angels, sculpted in 1904 according to an original plaster by Johan Tobias Sergel. The pulpit was probably built in 1753 according to plans by Carl Hårleman. It is then the biggest project of this kind in the history of Sweden [ 2 ] . The arrow is surmounted by a wrought iron weather vane representing a golden rooster. The renovation work of 1963-1965, carried out among others by Artur von Schmalensee, is essentially technical. A new electrical mechanism is installed in particular for the clock. The bell tower is now provided with a network of automatic extinguishers ( sprinklers ) for fire protection. The bell tower is 116 meters high, which makes the Sainte-Claire church the second highest church of Sweden and Scandinavia after the cathedral of Uppsala.
