(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4THE Salluste gardens (not Latin Garden Sallustiani ) occupied a large area in the northeast of Rome, in the valley between the Pincio and the Quirinal, in the current Sallustiano rione. These landscaped gardens were the property of the historian Romain Salluste. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4The original nucleus is a garden with a tower that Julius Caesar had near the hill door [ first ] . Then the gardens passed to Salluste after the Ides of Mars, which enlarged them. They remained in the family of the historian until 20, where they entered the heritage of the emperor Tiberius [ 2 ] . Archannée fights took place there in late 69 between the last supporters of Vitellius and the soldiers of Antonius Primus, general of Vespasien [ 3 ] . The emperors continued their developments in particular Hadrian and Aurélien. Nerva died there. At the end of III It is century, the gardens were included on their northern limit by the Aurélien wall, an inscription against this wall indicates its presence: Next Gardens SA [llustianos] [ 4 ] . The gardens were ransacked during the Rome bag by Alaric in 410 [ 5 ] . The gardens extended to the eastern part of the Pincio, east of the Via Salaria Vetus and to the wall of Aurélien. We assume their other limits to the current via Vittorio Veneto and via XX Settembre. They surrounded the narrow valley between the hills of the Pincio and the Quirinal, where a stream flowed, the Water Sallustiana , which probably took its source at the nymphea of the current Piazza Sallustiana [ 6 ] . The main vestige of the gardens is made up of the brick pavilion located Piazza Sallustio, between the Quirinal and the Pincio [ 5 ] . Now cashed, the building dominated the valley occupied by the gardens. Brick walls were covered with marble [ 5 ] . (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4The pavilion mainly included a circular room with a dome, but also other rooms, including a vestibule and others identified with bedrooms according to Filippo Coarelli [ 7 ] . On the left of the circular room, other parts are kept on a height of two floors and have stairs. The opposite side is occupied by a large incompletely released room whose facade was restored at XIX It is century [ 8 ] . Some rooms have preserved painted decorations and pavements of black and white mosaic. The pavilion was dated Hadrian’s reign [ 8 ] . The gardens were also provided with other buildings, sometimes prior to their development: a racetrack on the site of which was found the base of the obelisk in 1912; Elements of a cryptoportic have been discovered in the garage of the United States Embassy; A wall of what seems to have been a nympheed whose type of construction is of the republican period is also visible; a tank on two levels dated from the Hadrian era; A temple dedicated to Venus Erycine dated 184-181 BC. J.-C .; A temple dédi dédié in venus des spilletani on peut-up temple selon cake cake [ 9 ] . Remains of Place Salluste. Straight part of the pavilion. Left part of the pavilion.
