The Samsung Galaxy S (Factory name: Samsung GT-I9000) is a mobile phone of the Android smartphone type available released the . It is part of the Galaxy S range. It opens the way to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S series.

It uses Google’s Android mobile operating system (natively in version 2.1, but with a 2.2 Froyo update [ 2 ] and currently under 2.3 Gingerbread [ 3 ] ).

It has a processor clocked at 1 GHz against the 800 MHz From its direct competitor, Apple’s iPhone 4. The Galaxy S also has a more powerful graphics processor.

Its 4 “touch screen” uses the manufacturer’s “Super Amoled” exclusive technology.

This smartphone has a GPS positioning system provided with a location application via the Google Maps service.

It has an overlay of Samsung Touchwiz 3.0, thus almost identically using the concept present in the brand new Samsung Bada operating system incorporated into the Samsung Wave (S8500) released in this same period.

The Galaxy S owners demand an update to Android 4.0 but Samsung has decided to release a 2.3.6 version named “Value Pack” [ twelfth ] containing Android 4.0 functions. Internet users have decided to launch a petition for Samsung [ 13 ] In order to obtain this update from the Korean manufacturer.

Unofficially, developers not affiliated with Samsung continue to update the smartphone, there is the famous team of CyanogenMod [ 14 ] But also other teams of developers who publish their work either on their own site or on the XDA Developers forum [ 15 ] . Thanks to them, there are ports of Android 4.0 (alias Ics or Ice Cream Sandwich) and also Android Jelly Bean Android 4.1.x, 4.2.x and 4.3.x (alias JB or Jellybean) as well as Android 4.4 ( alias Kitkat) in Nightly version for the smartphone.

The most followed ports (updated) are:

  • Porting the Cyanogenmod team [ 16 ] Who now supports the device in version 10, 10.1 and 10.2 stable, or even in version 11 “Nightly” (usable version subjected to bugs but in development).
  • Le Portage de la Team Aokp (Android Open Kang Project) [ 17 ] which is a multiplatform port with many customization tools.
  • Porting the CNA team (Codenameandroid) [ 18 ] which is very similar to the AOKP carrier because very customizable and multiplatform too.
  • Portage of the ICSSGS team [ 19 ] .
  • Watching the team SlimRom [ 20 ] is a simple and light version Jellybean. Update regularly.

Its successor, the Samsung Galaxy S II, has been marketed since May 2011 in many countries of the world.

In mid- , Samsung announces that it has sold 9.3 million units.
In , it would have sold about 15 million copies [ 21 ] and in January 2013 at 24 million [ 22 ] .

The Samsung Galaxy S was released in a limited edition Giorgio Armani in France.
