The , its two leaders announce the rallying of the MS to the new left movement created a month earlier by the Walloon ex-Ecolo deputy Bernard Wesphael [ first ] . The latter envisages in To leave the party which he himself set up precisely because of “the forced entrism of former socialists (excluded from the PS, dissidents) who intend to make MG a PS-Bis in terms of method” [ 2 ] .

The socialist movement was born from the meeting of several dissident training courses in the Socialist Party (Belgium) (PS) which presented lists during the municipal elections of 2000: the socialist citizen alternative of Flémalle, led by Marcel Cools, the Union Binche, guided by the former bourgmestre André Navez.

These lists have been joined by women and men from many other municipalities in Wallonia and Brussels. These lists have federated to constitute the socialist movement, as we know it to date.

The goal of the socialist movement is to be a real left party. According to the MS: “The PS is closer to the center than the left! »»

The MS pleads in particular for a profound transformation of justice, a citizen democracy, a social security for all and a global tax reform [ 3 ] .

The , the president of the MS, Francis Biesmans, participates in the electoral debate of the small parties in the program “Development” of the RTBF. The socialist movement thus accesses the national press [ 4 ] . For Francis Biesmans: “The MS is the antithesis of the PS!” [ 5 ]
