L’ Urban unit of Tergnier is a French urban unit centered on Tergnier, the city of the department of Aisne in the heart of the fifth urban agglomeration of the department.
The Urban Unit of Tergnier is located in the center of the Department of Aisne, in the historic region of Laonnois where Laon is the main center. It is located west of the Grand Est region and north of Île-de-France, in the Hauts-de-France region.
Tergnier is located about thirty kilometers west of Laon, the prefecture of the Department of Aisne, and about sixty kilometers from Soissons, one of the sub-prefectures in the Department of Aisne.
The city and its agglomeration extend into the Oise valley, at the junction of several channels (lateral channel at Oise, Sambre channel at Oise and Saint-Quentin canal).
Important rail node and an industrial center still active, it is served by railway lines and has a rail station, and is accessible by the A26 motorway and is served by the National 32.
Located administratively in the Hauts-de-France region, Tergnier as all the cities of the Aisne strongly undergo the influence and attraction of Paris which is located at 120 km South.
In 2020, according to INSEE, the Urban Unit of Tergnier is made up of seven municipalities, all located in the department of Aisne, more precisely in the district of Laon.
In 2020, with 22,293 inhabitants, it constituted the fifth urban unit of the Department of Aisne, ranking after the urban units of Saint-Quentin ( first is departmental rank), of Soissons ( 2 It is departmental rank), of Laon ( 3 It is departmental rank where the latter is the prefecture), and of Château-Thierry ( 4 It is departmental rank). She occupies the 26 It is rank in the Hauts-de-France region.
In 2020, its population density which amounts to 459 inhabitants/km 2 In fact an urban unit moderately populated, slightly higher than that of Laon (418 inhabitants/km 2 ), but much lower than those of Saint-Quentin (1,274 inhabitants/km 2 ) and Soissons (772 inhabitants 2 ).

In 2020, INSEE proceeded to revise the delimitations of the urban units of France; That of Tergnier retained its perimeter of 2010. During the previous revision in 2010, it remained unchanged and still has seven urban municipalities as during the 1999 zoning [ first ] .
