During the wars of independence, the patriotic forces raised a fort and changed the name in 1815 for Vig\u00eda del Fuerte, which means in Spanish “Tour du Fort”. Vig\u00eda Del Fuerte sets off as an independent municipality of Murind\u00f3 in 1983 by ordinance 06 of the Departmental Assembly of Antioquia. Colombian armed conflict [ modifier | Modifier and code ] Vigia del Fuerte witnessed the violence of the Colombian armed internal conflict. Fronts 34 and 57 of FARCs have been the main armed groups present in the region since the 1980s. In 1990, many clashes took place with paramilitaries for the domination of the area. There are 16 actions of the armed conflict from 1990 to 2013 in this municipality [ 2 ] . For example, in 2000, 20 people, civilians or police officers, died during an attack perpetrated in Vidr\u00ed, a vereda which depends the municipality of Vigia del Fuerte [ 3 ] . In addition, armed groups impose their law during crossing the river, taking money and agricultural products to travelers [ 4 ] . Peace process [ modifier | Modifier and code ] The story tormented by Vig\u00eda del Fuerte’s conflict has made a place of choice for the peace process. In 2016, it was one of the 322 municipalities prioritized by the government in the post-conflict [ 5 ] . Vidr\u00ed, which belongs to the municipality of Vig\u00eda del Fuerte is one of the “transitional zones” which consist in welcoming the veterans to return their weapons. In August 2017 , these areas become “territorial spaces of reincorporation” which aim to prepare for the return to civil life of the veterans of the guerrillas through vocational training and the development of productive projects [ 6 ] . This is one of the least populated municipalities in Antioquia with 5,606 inhabitants in 2017 but also one with the most extensive territory, with an area of \u200b\u200b1,801 km 2 , which returns to 3 inhabitants per km 2 . The population of Vig\u00eda del Fuerte is mainly Afro-descendent: 85.9% of the inhabitants self-reconnected as such and 11.4% as indigenous. This indigenous population lives in the 5 native reserves of the municipality: El Salado, Guaguand\u00f3, Jengado Apartad\u00f3, Murri – Pantanos y R\u00edo Jarapeto. Vig\u00eda del Fuerte is a category 6 municipality, that is to say the poorest category in the typology of Colombia. It is one of the 10 poorest municipalities in Antioquia. Illiteracy is relatively high since 20.5% of 15 years old And no longer knows how to read or write [ 2 ] . This percentage is accentuated in the countryside (26% against 15% in the village). Access to public services is low. For example, only 55.34% have access to electricity [ 2 ] . The population of Vig\u00eda del Fuerte is mainly rural and lives from agriculture, fishing and breeding. 2 000 hectares are exploited for the cultivation of plantain, rice, corn or cassava.
