Yves-G. Prepontaine , born the In Mont-Saint-Hilaire, is a Quebec harpsichord, organist and teacher.

He did classical studies at the Montreal College and the Philosophy Seminar (B.A., University of Montreal); He also has a specialized education certificate in music (MEQ, Vincent-d’Indy music school) and a certificate in audio-visual pedagogy from the University of Montreal.

He studied at the Montreal Conservatory of Music in the organ classes of Bernard Lagacé, Mireille Lagacé and harpsichord of Scott Ross, and obtained first prices in each of these disciplines. Then he has the opportunity to perfect his learning the harpsichord in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt. He distinguished himself in the competitions of the Royal Canadian College of the Organists and was awarded the John-Robb Prize in 1971 [ first ] .

For a few years, he worked as a search and animator on the radio of the Radio-Canada cultural channel as well as to the Télé-Média network and Radio Ville-Marie.

In 1984, he founded the Music Department of Cégep Marie-Victorin in Montreal. After having directed it for ten years, he teaches, harpsichord, musical literature and choral song until 2011 [ Ref. desired] .

From 2003 to 2009, he assumed the presidency of the friends of the organ of Montreal. It was also a member of the Directors of Directors of Laudem (the association of liturgical musicians of Canada) and the concert company “the keyboard of the past”.

In 1965, he was appointed holder of the new neo-Baroque Casavant organ of the Sanctuary Marie-Reine-des-Cœurs in Montreal, jointly with Bernard Lagacé. Since 1994, he has also assumed the posts of master of chapel and holder of the classic French type Guilbault-Thérien of the Grand Séminaire de Montréal.

For a few years he co -hosted the Organ Summer Academy “Organ and Cimes” in Finhaut in Valais, Switzerland, and now teaches at the Orgueval Academy in the canton of Vaud.

Very active on the Montreal music scene, Yves-G. Préfontaine played for most organizations for promoting organ and festivals in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick, the same as in the United States, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland where it produced regularly. In France, we were able to hear it in the stands of Notre-Dame de Paris, the primatial of Lyon, the cathedral of Nîmes, St-Rémy-de-Provence, as well as to the keyboards of the Historical Organic Organic, St-Maximin-de-Provence, St-Guilhelm-le-Désert, Forcalquier and Saint-Martin de Seurre.

Both in the organ and the harpsichord, he has the opportunity to join prestigious Quebec training, including I Musici de Montréal and the Montreal Baroque Orchestra [ 2 ] .

Among his most striking achievements, we must count the presentation to the Montreal public of the integral of works for keyboard of François Couperin in twelve recitals (1991-1993), as well as the works of Jean-Henry d’Anglebert and Jean- Philippe Rameau.

Since 1994, he has organized every Sunday in October, the “Festival des Couleurs de l’Orgue Français”, a very popular recitals series by Quebec organists and elsewhere on the classic French organ-thérien de la Chapelle organ of the great seminar of Montreal.

In , he inaugurates another series of recitals “L’Orgue in May”, presented every Friday Midi of May at the Casavant Organ of the Sanctuary Marie-Reine-des-Cœurs in the east of Montreal.
