The Church of San Nicola di Mira It is a place of Catholic worship, the mother church of the city of Carpino, in the Gargano, in the province of Foggia. Placed in the highest part of the Carpinese hill, it is located in the ancient neighborhood called The terr [first] . The first news of this church dates back to the Synod of the Bishops of 1678, where Archbishop Br. Vincenzo Maria Orsini [2] He consecrated it on 22 October 1678 in honor of San Nicola di Mira, putting the relics of the Holy Martyrs Dionisio and Lelio [first] . Later, there is news of this place of worship in 1837 when the Collegiate was called back to the report of the Enanta Cav. Gaetano Lotti, read the opening of a session of the Provincial Council of Capitanata [3] From which it is deduced that the church had just been destroyed or strongly damaged shortly, perhaps by telluric events [first] . Church interiors The cupola It is entirely frescoed, while in other parts of the Church, the various restoration interventions have ruined the existing frescoes. The four evangelists are represented at the four corners of the dome [first] . The roof it consists of a double system of wooden trusses, currently in a strong state of degradation [first] .The biggest leader is composed and the external coverage supports, while the smallest, however, too composed , supports the frescoed vault and consists of a system of straws intertwined with chalk [first] . The Bell tower Place protruding from the perimeter, on the left corner of the church, develops on three levels. The third are the bell cells and the old coverage dome, completely incorporated inside the portion of the reconstructed bell tower [first] . Restoration works [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ] On June 19, a meeting was held between citizenship and institutions on the restoration of the Church and a worrying situation emerged especially for the trusses that support the roof or the wooden trusses that are in an advanced state of degradation [7] .Don Celestino Jervolino, parish priest of Carpino, immediately activated to receive, but the CEI gave his availability for only 285,000 euros on an intervention 516,000 euros for an urgent restoration [7] . For a complete restoration, the architect Mimmo Zezza prepared, in 1995 a complete project of restoration for the church, whose estimated sum was 6 million euros of which 4, taken from the 8xmille funds [7] .
