L’ Agusta deal O Agusta-Dassault affair It was a scandal of corruption in relation to the combat helicopters purchased by the Belgian army, by the Italian producer Agusta in 1988. The deal came to light through a search for the Belgian office Agusta and his lobbyists Georges Cywie. The scandal has led to the resignation of several important politicians.
In January 1994, the Belgian Senate voted for a partial reduction of the parliamentary immunity of the two regional ministers Guy Spitels (PS) and Guy Mathot (PS) following a report by the investigating judge Véronique Ancia.
Belgian Defense Minister Guy Coëme (PS) had to resign in January 1994. He was followed by Foreign Minister Franck Vandenbroucke (SP) in March of the same year and on October 20, 1995 the secretary of NATO Willy Claes.
The Belgian Court of Cassation sentenced Willy Claes to three years of supervision on 23 December 1998 and prohibited him from holding public offices for five years. Guy Coëme and Guy Spitaels have been sentenced to two years of supervised freedom and cannot cover assignments for five years. The French industrialist Serge Dassault was sentenced to two years of supervised freedom. [first] Only Guy Mathot was acquitted of accusations.
In total, Agusta and Dassault paid over 160 million Belgian francs (about 4 million euros) in bribes to the socialist parties and the Sozialistische Partij. The socialist parties had to reimburse 49 million francs and the satisfying parties 111 million francs.

On July 18, 1991, the politician, André Cools, died as part of a murder. Various slopes have been hypothesized on the motivations of this assassination, including Agusta deal. The judicial investigation did not establish a link between the cases Agusta and Cools. [2]
