Common Courtesy It is the fifth studio album of the US musical group in Day to Remember, published independently in 2013.

The album is the first of the band to reach the rankings of Austria, Belgium and Germany, in addition to exceeding the precedents in Australia and the United Kingdom, despite being published without any promotion or support of any label following the legal cause involving the A Day to Remember and Victory Records in those years. In December 2013 the album sold 92 874 copies in the United States only ^[7] . In May it arrived at the figure of 200 000 copies sold ^[8] .

Finding again in a legal cause that began in 2011 with their Victory Records label, the A Day to Remember begin recordings for their fifth unreleased album independently, working with friends and longtime collaborators Andrew Wade, Chad Gilbert and Tom Denney . May 8 is revealed that the title of their new work will be Common Courtesy ^[9] . On March 19, 2013 it is announced that the records of the disc were completed, and the mixing phase of the disk begins ^[ten] .

On August 23, the first of a series of five humorist/demented videos dedicated to the new album called Common Courtesy – The Series , to the end of which is announced that the date of release for the new album was set for October 8, 2013. The news is subsequently confirmed by the singer Jeremy McKinnon on his Twitter profile ^[11] .

On December 3, an countdown for December 21 is added to the band’s website. At the end of it, a new song was published, Violence (Enough Is Enough) , which will be part of the new album ^{[twelfth] [13]} .
On March 21, 2013 the band brings to debut during a concert in Atlanta another unpublished song, called Right Back at It Again ^[14] . Dead & Buried , another new song, instead he is played for the first time in Boomfield on 11 September ^[15] .

On 7 October he is announced by the band on Twitter that Right Back at It Again It was released as the first single extracted from the new album ^[16] . In December 2013 the single enters the ranking of Billboard Alternative Songs, reaching 40th place ^[7] . In March 2014 he was released as a second single extracted from the album La Power Ballad End of Me , of which a music video is also published in June 2014, made with the direction of Shane Drake ^{[17] [18]} . An official video for November 6, 2014 for I’m Already Gone ^[19] , followed by another made for City of Ocala , published on March 9, 2015 ^[20] .

In an interview on 10 September McKinnon confirms that the legal cause with the Victory Records is still in progress, and that he does not know if the album will be released through the label or independently ^[21] . On 23 September the cover of the album is revealed, which consists in the design of a man on the shoulders (characteristic of the covers of all the previous studio albums of the band) in front of a crowd of people inside two C placed on a background cream color ^[22] , and the pre -order of the album on the official website of the group is made available ^[22] .

On October 5, the news arrives that Ai Day to Remember had permission from the Court to release their album independently, even if they will be forced to release at least two other albums for the Victory Records ^{[23] [24]} . Jeremy McKinnon proves to be contrary, contesting the fact that the two DVDs published in the special editions of the previous albums were not taken into consideration as an album provided by the contract with Victory ^[25] .

The album was made available for purchase exclusively on the band’s official website on October 8, 2013 ^[26] . Subsequently it is revealed that the full version of the album will contain three additional tracks and that it will be released in Europe on 22 November and North America on November 25, both in digital format in the main musical portals and in physical format ^[27] . The CD version also contains a DVD Bonus with four of the five episodes of the webseries Common Courtesy – The Series . The LP version of the album was instead made available for purchase from 20 January 2014 ^[28] . Subsequently, a deluxe edition was also published containing the same traces of the standard edition but with the addition of the video of Right Back at It Again And a video dedicated to the 2013 tour tour. In addition, in December 2015, a limited edition of the album called is published Shark Attack Edition , consisting of two LPs collected in a “torn” case in half, so as to seem to have been gripped by a shark ^[29] . This format is made available in just 2 000 copies to be sold on the official website of the A Day to Remember and in Australia during the “Big ASS Tour” with The Amity Affliction ^[29] .

The style of the album has been judged different from the others a Day to Remember especially as regards the style of the texts, even if the characteristic choice to combine pop punk and metalcore in their songs is confirmed again ^[3] . Also Brendan Manley of Alternative Press defined the album ” A classic A Day to Remember album, in all senses “, but adding that” Among all the songs, the pop punk are prevailed, giving life to the most memorable moments of the album ” ^[first] . Specialized sites such as AllMusic It is Renowned for Sound they praised the group to be able to create an original and fresh album that ” Once again it shows their impressive versatility as musicians and authors ” ^{[30] [33]} .

The album was classified in fourth place in the best 50 album in 2013 made by Rock Sound , being defined ” the glorious beginning of a new chapter [of the group], rather than his agonizing end ” ^[35] .
