Djordje Balasevic (in Serbo Djordje Balasevic Pronuncia: Giorge Balascevich ; Novi Sad, 11 May 1953 – Novi Sad, 19 February 2021) was a Yugoslav singer -songwriter, then Serbian.

Balašević was born from Father Serbian (Jovan Balašević) and Magiaro-Croatian mother (Veronika Dolenec, from a village at Koprivnica, in Croatia). He has a sister, Jasna. The surname of his grandfather was Balaš but in 1941, being a Christian Orthodox, he changed him to Balašević in order to avoid nailing. [first]

Balašević grew in via Jovan Cvijić in Novi Sad, in the same house where he lived with his wife and three children. He started writing poems in elementary schools. He left high schools in the third year because he hated subjects such as mathematics, physics and chemistry, however he managed to achieve a diploma as a privateist and pass the admission exam at university. He never graduated, instead he became part of the band Žetva (Harvest) in 1977.

He died in 2021 from complications from Covid-19. [2]

After joining the Žetva he recorded the single “U Razdeljak Te Ljubim”, with more than 180 000 copies sold, in Yugoslavia it was a huge success.

In 1978 he left the “Žetva” and together with Verica Todorović formed the band “Rani Mraz” ( Primio Gelo ). They debuted in Abbey (in a music festival) with the song “Moja Prva Ljubav” ( My first love )). LO Stesso Anno Biljana Krstic e Bora Djordjevic Si uniro alla band, e assieme registrarion “count on us” ( Counts on us ) (Written by Balašević), a song that praises the adoption of communism by young generations. The song became famous both among the communist authorities and among the people, and became a kind of hymn for the generations that followed.

At the Split Festival ’79, Balašević won the first prize with the single “Panonski Mornar”. A few months later he sold out in the “Dom Sindikata” room in Belgrade 8 times in a row. A star was born.
In 1980 he served under the weapons in Zagreb and Požarevac but found the time to write a song for Zdravko Čolić and another for Zlatna Krila.

Towards the end of 1980 the “Rani Mraz” published their second album which was also the last because they melted shortly after. The album reconfirmed Balašević’s talent and boasts some of the most unforgettable songs such as “Priča or Ladačkom vases” ( Storia di vasa Ladak ) e “life is the sea” ( Life is a sea ) which, 20 years after their publication, are still very popular.
