The College of Matera It was an uninominal electoral college of the Italian Republic for the election of the Chamber of Deputies. It belonged to the Basilicata district and was used to elect a deputy in the XII, XIII and XIV legislature.

It was established in 1993 with the so -called Mattarella law (law n. 277, New rules for the election of the Chamber of Deputies ), implemented following the abrogative referendum of 1993. The law established for the Chamber of Deputies and for the Senate of the Republic a mixed election system, partly major and partly proportional. 75% of the parliamentarians of the assembly were elected in uninominal colleges through a majority system in a single turn; The remaining 25% in the chamber was elected via proportional system with blocked lists.

The college was abolished together with all the others who constituted the chamber with the promulgation of the subsequent electoral law, the so -called Calderoli law. This provided for a proportional system with a majority prize, which was attributed to the Chamber at national level.

The college of Matera was one of the 5 uninominal colleges in which Basilicata was divided and, as required by Legislative Decree of 20 December 1993 n. 536 [first] , was entirely included in the province of Matera and included the following municipalities: Accetura, Calciano, Ferrandina, Garaguso, Grassano, Grottole, Irsina, Matera, Miglionico, Montescaglioso, Oliveto Lucano, Pomarico, Salandra, San Mauro Forte and Tricarico.
