The inverted goal of the newly purchased Youuri Djorkaeff at Rome of January 5, 1997, counted among the most beautiful in the history of football. [3]

With Hodgson still at the helm of the team, [4] Roberto Carlos was sold to Real Madrid for tactical incompatibility with the British. [5] News from the market – in the face of a corporate shareholding that recorded the insertion of Pirelli – [6] They were Tarantino, gallant and Angloma for the backlog package; [7] Sforza and Winter composed the midfield hinge, [8] With the midfielder Djorkaeff in support of the Kanu tips (whose membership was delayed by a heart disease [9] [ten] ) and Zamorano, [11] [twelfth] The latter revealed a valid alternative to confirmed Branca and Ganz. [13] [14]

To the name of the transalpine fantasyist, the goal in Acrobatia to Rome on 5 January 1997 was linked, [15] Prowess who pushed the referee Cesari to congratulate the player: [16] The network has since been considered among the most beautiful in the history of football [3] And in the immediate time it will become the cover of the Inter subscription for the following season. [17] [18] While missing in the complex of a collective identity in favor of individual individualities, [4] Hodgson’s team – eliminated by Napoli in the Italian Cup semifinals – [19] [20] He was able to propose himself as the third force of the championship after Juventus and Parma: [21] braking at home by the Turin – with the result of protest due to a network that the referee hill canceled in Ganz after the complaints of the Bianconeri of Lippi – [22] [23] The Lombards fell on the field of the ducals, abandoning the struggle-school to the end of winter. [24]

Javier Zanetti and Eigenrauch in the return final of the UEFA Cup between Inter and Schalke 04, which saw the Nerazzurri defeated by the spot. [25]

Greater satisfactions gave a journey to UEFA characterized during the first phase by the elimination of Guingamp, Ak Grazer and Boavista: [26] In the following rounds it was therefore Ganz who was vital, [27] With the abulia of the Friulian who decided with the Belgian Anderlecht and the French Monaco. [28] [29] Therefore opposite to the German Schalke 04 for the assignment of the trophy, [30] the Beneamata In the meantime, the lowest step of the podium in the national context ensured. [thirty first] [32]

The first act of the final arose to Teutonici for a goal by Wilmots, [33] with the fate equalized by Zamorano in return match from Milan: [34] In extra time, after the expulsion of Fresi for the sum of yellow and a cross hit by Ganz, [34] Javier Zanetti and Hodgson were the protagonists of a hard altercation originating from the choice of the technician to replace the Argentine with Berti. [35] A physical confrontation between the coach and the “number 4” averted, [36] The Nerazzurri were missing the conquest of the Cup with penalties for the conclusions failed by Zamorano and Winter. [34] Entered into conflict with the management, [37] English resigned in the aftermath of the match: [38] Deputy Castellini, who took over for the time , [39] He obtained another participation in UEFA with 59 points in the standings. [4] [40]

The technical sponsor for the 1996-1997 season was Umbrian [6] , while the official one was Pirelli. [6] [41]
