In the 1963-1964 season, Genoa disputes the Serie A championship, with 30 points obtained eighth place in the standings, the tricolor championship goes to Bologna who won the tournament with Inter with 54 points and then won (2- 0) The playoff for the title. The Modena who lost the relegation play-off (2-0) with Sampdoria, both arrived at 27 points, the Spal with 24 points and Bari with 22 points, relegated to Serie B.

Following the doping scandal of the previous summer, Genoa had to face the first part of the championship with some disqualified players, including the young Meroni. [first] [2] In the Italian Cup, the rossoblù team exceeds Brescia in the first round, Alexandria in the second round, in the third round it is eliminated by Turin.

The five 0-0 consecutive draws between the 10th and 14th day constitute an absolute record for the Serie A (equaled by Bologna in the 1970-1971 season), as well as the 515 minutes spent without making or undergoing networks [3] .

At the end of the season, on June 14, Genoa plays the “Cup of the President of the Province of Genoa”, a derby against Sampdoria winning (3-1) with goals by Locatelli, Meroni and Maraschi, the last on loan from Lazio. [4]

The jersey for home games had the rossoblu colors.
