Microsoft 365 – Wikipedia

Microsoft 365 (until April 21, 2020 known as Office 365 ^[2] ) is a subscription service sold by Microsoft that includes the Office Suite ^[3] , born as an evolution in the cloud of the same. ^[4]

Microsoft 365 is a Saas whose subscription is concretized in subscriptions and related payment plans.

For domestic use, Microsoft 365 is sold in two options, one for personal use and the other for family use, with unlimited devices. ^[5] In its corporate version it can also be tried for 30 days ^[6] .

Microsoft 365 allows you to use all the Software of the Office package to the most updated version online, including Outlook, an organizational software for e-mail, calendar and address book, the Word Processor Word, the Excel electronic sheet, PowerPoint for the Creation of presentations, in addition to all the other software of the suite depending on the subscription.

The sale logic passes from that of product to that of service. Together with the applications listed above, in fact, the storage space on OneDrive is granted, the Microsoft cloud service, as well as a certain quantity of minutes of call with the Microsoft called/video call product, Skype. Finally, offline use and multi -platform support is also guaranteed (Windows, MacOS, iOS, Pados and Android).

With a single subscription it is possible to install Microsoft 365 in multiple devices but, currently, some applications are not available for all platforms; In particular, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Publisher are only available for Windows.

The applications included in Microsoft 365, depending on the versions, are the following:

• Access (Windows)
• Excel (Windows, MacOS, iOS, Ipados, Android, Online)
• Onenote (Windows, Macos, iOS, iPados, Android, online); Not to be confused this version with the free UWP app already included in Windows 10 and Windows 11 (ONENOTE FOR WINDOWS)
• Outlook (complete for Windows and MacOS; Outlook.com webmail service only for iOS, iPados, Android and online; complete online only in some Enterprise versions ^[7] )
• PowerPoint (Windows, MacOS, IOS, IPadOS, Android, online)
• Publisher (Windows)
• Word (Windows, MacOS, IOS, IPadOS, Android, online)

The Microsoft 365 subscription allows you to use Microsoft Defender, which can also be downloaded individually from Microsoft Store.

The currently available versions of Microsoft 365 are as follows: ^[8] (The combination of products contained in each floor is available on the dedicated Microsoft website).

• For special uses: Microsoft 365 Nonprofit ( Charity ), Microsoft 365 Government, Microsoft 365 for field operators, Microsoft 365 large companies (includes other Microsoft services as well as those related to Office).

Some business plans also contain Microsoft Visio while Microsoft Project is not part of 365. Since Skype for Business has been withdrawn, it is no longer part of the company plans.

The Microsoft Infopath module creation software is not included in Microsoft 365 or in Office 2016 and subsequent versions, but users with an active license of one of these versions can still use it by downloading the latest version for free, or 2013, whose 2013 support has been extended until 2026. ^{[9] [ten]}

There are other very specific and advanced services for E5, E3 and F3 plans (the complete and updated list is found on the Microsoft website dedicated to 365).

Since the Exchange service is included, in the company versions of Microsoft 365 you have an e -mail box with personalized domain (usable via Outlook). Or, for home use, Outlook is sufficient.

Microsoft 365 allows you to use the applications of the Office Suite also in offline version as this is installed locally when buying the service. To maintain the possibility, you need to access the online apps at least once every 39 days, which however should also be performed normally to download updates. Spent 39 days ^[15] , the cloud version has some less function while the offline remains complete with all functions. However, once you access online, even after the indicated period, the account is reactivated immediately and the apps regain all the feature .

Since Microsoft 365 a service, the suite apps are always updated to the latest Office edition and/or version available. Microsoft 365 is available for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and later versions and is therefore the only way to obtain the latest versions of the desktop apps for Windows 7 since, with the end of the Microsoft support for this operating system, the latest available edition of Office for Windows 7 is 2016, while 2019 is not compatible.

Since March 2023 Microsoft 365 integrates an artificial intelligence similar to chatgpt, which is able to suggest responses to e-mails and rewrite phrases or entire paragraphs. ^[16]

Microsoft 365 should not be confused with Microsoft Office on the web (Also known as Microsoft Office Online ), which is Microsoft’s free (in the form of web app) service to use office in web mode (i.e. through a browser connected to the Internet).

In March 2023 Microsoft announced the paid launch of Microsoft 365 Copalota, artificial intelligence solution that allows self -control of office files. Inspired by Github Copilot, this functionality provides for the creation of sophisticated Excel formulas starting from the requirements expressed in natural language. Artificial intelligence is also capable of synthesizing in real time the salient points of a meeting, divergent positions and possible developments in the following meeting. ^{[17] [18]}

Faust Office is an alternative capable of generating code with artificial intelligence, which however is performed locally, without saving data on remote servers. ^[19]

Microsoft Loop is an online collaboration platform announced by Microsoft on November 2, 2021 as an integral part of the latest version of Microsoft 365. ^[20]

It supports collaboration up to a maximum of 50 users. The file is organized as a noteworthy block of several pages corresponding to as many work areas. Different users access different work area; Each user can be enabled to view only a part of the content in the work area. In each work area, components such as tables, graphic designers, focused lists and content from other Microsoft apps such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook can be inserted. ^[21]
