The birth of the first football club of the city was uncertain, but according to the local chronicles it was conceived in 1905, more precisely towards the end of that year and the beginning of the following one, in the then city called Terranova Pausania, whose process foundative closed on January 12, 1906 with the name of Olbia gymnastics company , according to an article of La Nuova Sardegna of that day, and it was born as a gymnastic club founded by a Sassarese athlete, such Egidio Serra. The article of the time, written by Franco Sardo, lists the first Board of Directors who had as President Agostino Amaucano.

The first season of the newborn G…..L. Olbia In Serie C, with Sardinian Gesuino President and Mario De Palma on the bench was not particularly lucky, and in fact, after the first 1-0 Serie C victory against Stabia, a series of defeats followed the first division, after just A year of stay, remaining for three consecutive seasons until the suspension of the championships due to the Second World War.

From the Second World War to the 1970s [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ]

After the suspension of sports activities for war causes, in the summer of 1947, the whites started again from the group or of the C series concluding with a good 6th place, but for financial difficulties, at the end of the season he renounced the registration by deciding to start from the Sardinian championships minors.

In the Sardinia First Division Championship 1948-1949, Olbia relegated to the end of a season of passion, remaining agonistically inactive for two seasons. However, the football activity continued locally, thanks to a group of young premises represented by Mariano Spano, Tonino Varrucciu and Bruno Garrucciu.

After the period of inactivity, the turning point came at the end of the Sardinia First Division championship 1951-1952 with the arrival of the world champion Gino Colaussi who ended his career as a player, playing 7 races and scoring a goal during the entire championship, to start that of coach. In the following year, Olbia conquered the promotion on the field in Serie D and, thanks to Colaussi on the bench, young promises were launched like Gustavo Giagnoni who held 77 meetings in Olbia with 23 goals before launching himself in his lucky career of Player and coach at the highest levels.

Subsequently, Olbia after fighting in the head positions to return to the maximum amateur division, in the Sardinia promotion season 1956-1957 reached first place and returned to the interregional championship, then renamed Serie D.

Fifteen years later, between Serie D and a brief experience in the first division Sardinia in 1963-1964 followed by an immediate ascent in the fourth series of the Italian Championship, in 1968, Olbia found Serie C for the third time, under the presidency by Elio Pintus and Paolo “Palleddu” Degortes on the bench, winning group F of the Serie D and returning among the professionals after twenty years of absence thanks to the Benvenuto Misse, Selleri and the Bettella parades.

Since the 1970s [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ]

The Olbia of the 1985-1986 season, promoted in Serie C2

Over the years played in Serie C and then in the downgrade series C2, after the farewell of Elio Pintus at the helm of the company in 1981 and the succession of various presidents, the whites stabilized between the third and fourth professional division obtaining as better placement A 4th place in the season of Serie C2 1993-1994, then, in the years to come, Olbia played swinging championships between Serie D and Serie C, until the 2009-2010 season, when, just one year after the historical result of the play -Off in Serie C2 lost against Alessandria (a victory and a 1-0 defeat, but eliminated for worst ranking), the Olbia always for financial problems left for Sardinian excellence, changing management and denomination after the arrival of the ‘Brescia entrepreneur Franco Rusconi who in 2007 took over the company by guiding it at good results in Serie C2 and arriving to play the play-offs in 2008-2009.

After three seasons in the maximum regional division and a failure in 2010, thanks to the restart in Excellence with a group of former players and Pino Scanu to the presidency, Olbia managed, to return to Serie D, thanks to a final score of 69 points consisting of: 21 competitions won, 6 equalized and 3 lost with 69 networks made and 23 suffered.

In the 2014-2015 Serie D championship, the team went to touch the Promotion in Lega Pro concluding with a 3rd final place after Lupa Castelli Romani and Viterbese losing with the latter the final of the play-offs in group G.

On November 30, 2015, after 5 years of Pino Scanu management, which resumed the company in Excellence after the financial problems, a new president Alessandro Marino, professor of strategy at Luiss University, was appointed, until the previous year in the Board of Cagliari and Vice President of the Fluorsid Group. [5] [6] [7]

On the field, the Olbia reassembled from the ninth in fifth place, closing the championship at 62 points on equal merit with Rieti and Torres, respectively fourth and third classified by virtue of the best positioning in the Standa ranking. The Olbia thus detached the ticket for the dispute of the play-offs that won authoritatively conquering the fields of Grosseto (semifinal) and Torres (final). Sassari’s victory [8] , who had been missing for over 22 years, he reported great enthusiasm in the city [9] And he allowed Olbia to position himself in the group of the first searched companies for the 2016-2017 Lega Pro.

Annotations [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ]

  1. ^ a b Although the date of foundation of the company was identified in 1905 – without however any certainty -, the journalistic memory places it in 1906. According to the newspaper La Nuova Sardegna, the exact date is January 12, 1906. Among the lines of the newspaper, in that date, we read in fact that:

[…] A gymnastic company has formed that took the name of Olbia […] and the young people have rushed to enroll in the new company, and Olbia already has about one hundred members. »

1905 – precisely the last weeks of the year – would therefore be the date in which the athlete Egidio Serra developed the idea of founding a new sports club; Idea materialized then in the first months of the following year. History . are olbiacalcio.com , http://www.olbiacalcio.com/ .
