The Knights of the Zodiac – The last battle ( Saint Seiya Final War Warriors Saint Seiya: SAISHûSEISEN NO SENSHITACHI ? ) It is an animated film from 1989 directed by Masayuki Akehi.

It is the fourth animation feature film de The Zodiac Knights , who sees five protagonists face Lucifer and his four demons ascase to conquer the world. It was projected for the first time in Japan on March 18, 1989 (the same day on which episode 112 was broadcast, the third last of the animated series) and is partly following two of the previous three films, taking up the characters of Discord and Apollo.

Like the three previous films also of this feature film there is a version re -proposed by Dynamic Italia in 2000, with the title translated in Saint Seiya – Seiya the sacred warrior – The fighters of the last sacred war , with names and dialogues more faithful to the original edition. Both tracks are available in the DVD edition published by Yamato Video.

Lucifer, the Lord of the Underworld, came to Earth with hostile intentions: once he was the most beautiful angel of paradise, but because of his immoderate ambition he was confined by God in hell. Now Lucifer wants to take his revenge and with the help of Apollo, Neptune and Discordia, the gods defeated by the Knights of the Zodiac, wants to submit humanity and dominate the whole world. Athena, who in the past has been rival of Lucifer, wants to prevent the plans of the Lord of the Underworld from being made, but the only way he has to save the earth is sacrificing himself to the enemy god at the Risen Temple of Lucifer and between atrocious suffering.

Lady Isabel goes to the Palazzo di Lucifer, ready to sacrifice himself to save humanity. The knights of the zodiac want to avoid the sacrifice of Athena and follow it to the temple of the Lord of the underworld. In his path Pegasus, Sirio, Cristal and Andromeda come across the demons followers of Lucifer and hire a hard battle with them. First Dragone has to face Astaroth and Belzebù with the Knight of the Dragon with Astarotho, but then he is beaten by Belzebù. Andromeda’s knight clashes with Eligor, but is in serious difficulty and risks being defeated. He is saved only thanks to Phoenix’s intervention: with the Diabolical ghost The knight of the Phoenix defeats Eligor, and then leaves his brother who passed out on the ground and going directly to Lucifer. In the meantime, Cristal faces Grigo: the knight of the swan manages to prevail at the end of a very hard struggle.

While Lady Isabel is intent on crossing a staircase covered with thorns and Phoenix is defeated by Lucifer, Pegasus clashes with Belzebù, who however proves to be a difficult opponent. Despite the initial disadvantage, the young hero does not give up and unites his cosmos to that of the other Knights of Athena. To help the knight of Pegasus comes the golden armor of the Sagittarius, which is arranged on the body of the young hero. Defeated with ease of Belzebù, Pegasus beats against Lucifer the Gold arrow , in which the power of all the Golden Knights converges: Lucifer is killed and Apollo, Neptune and Discredit fall together with him. The temple of the Lord of the underworld collapses, but Lady Isabel and his knights are saved. Lucifer is condemned to remain in hell and justice returns to reign on earth.

Italian edition [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ]

Like the previous films, too The last battle It presents both a faithful adaptation to that used in the TV series (with the dialogues curated by Irene Cantoni and Stefano Cerioni), is a more faithful one to the original. The first version was then broadcast by Italia 1 in the early 2000s, together with the TV series.

The first dubbing sees the return of the historical voice actors both for the protagonists and for Neptune and Apollo (it is the exception of discord, voiced in this film by Caterina Rochira and not by Maddalena Vadacca). Unlike the other films, there are no great changes named among the new antagonists, with the exception of the Moa demon (renamed in the Italian Gross version). It was also the first film of the knights released following the failure of the Press grenade by Dynamic Italia in 1996. The dubbing took place both at the P.V. of Milan (for the voices of the protagonists and divinities that appeared in the previous films) which at the Eddy Cortese Cooperative in Rome (for the dubbing of Lucifer and its demons), under the double direction of Ivo De Palma and Fabrizio Mazzotta respectively [2] [3] . The latter subsequently complained of intrusions in the choice of Alessandra Di Sanzo as a voice of Lucifer by his brother Francesco Di Sanzo, then responsible for Dynamic [3] .

The second Italian edition (entitled Saint Seiya – Seiya the sacred warrior – The fighters of the last sacred war ) was always released by Dynamic Italia in Home Video edition, together with a complete repopy of the other three films with a completely new cast, the use of original names and terms and a new adaptation curated by Valerio Manenti. Like the previous edition, the latter also presents a dubbing carried out in part in Milan at the Logos Studio with the management of Manenti, and one in Rome at the Sefit-Cdc directed by Isabella Pasanisi [2] .

Home Video editions [ change | Modifica Wikitesto ]

The film was distributed for the first time in VHS format by Dynamic with the first dubbing in 1996. Between 1999 and 2000 the second Italian edition was released in videotape, which contained various extras such as the karaoke version of the original acronyms. In 2002 Dynamic then released an edition in “Memorial Box” which includes the respective VHS of the four films. In November 2006, Yamato Video detected the rights of the first four films, publishing them for the first time in DVD with double Italian and original Japanese audio [4] .
