Istrian Democratic Council , IDS ; ital. Istrian Democratic Diet , Di ) is a left -liberal party in Croatia. The IDS/DDI, as a regional party, represents the interests of the population in Istria, but it also works in national politics. She currently has two mandates in the Croatian parliament. Party chairman is Dalibor Paus. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4The party was founded in 1990 before the first free elections in Croatia. However, she decided not to take part in the elections. For example, it enabled the Croatian communist, who had been renamed the Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP) shortly before that to win the entire region of Istria for votes. The IDS then competed for the first time in the 1992 parliamentary elections and used losses of the SDP to conquer all three Istrian electoral districts. The election result made Istria an area of special attention for Croatian President Franjo Tuđman and his Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), which dominated in all other parts of Croatia. A state -controlled media campaign was launched for the first Croatian lower house election, which coincided with the elections in the newly founded Istria Columnism Country, which aimed almost exclusively on Istria. The campaign proved to be a spectacular own goal, since almost three quarters of the Istrian voters voted for the IDs. Since this election, no other party has been able to break IDS’s supremacy in the region. The IDS is committed to its own cultural and economic identity of Istria and the equal status of the Italian and Croatian language in Istria. This did not correspond to Tuđman’s pronounced national conservative policy. In this regard, the other Croatian parties proved to be pragmatic, so that the IDs coalized in the Croatian Parliament and also in elections with other parties. In Istria itself, however, the IDS is involved in a violent conflict with the local daughter party of the SDP and with the former member and first prefect Luciano Delbianco, who separated from the party and founded the Istrian Democratic Forum. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4The IDS was part of the national government after the successful elections in 2000, when its coalition won with the strongest party SDP. But just a year later, the IDS left the coalition because of discrepancies in the Istria policy and the way the party of Ivica Račan treated the coalition partner. However, the IDS continued to support the SDP in parliament. In 2006 the IDS joined the European Liberal, Democratic and Reform Party (Eldr), today Allianz of the Liberals and Democrats for Europe. In the election to Sabor in December 2011, the IDS was victorious with the Kukuriku coalition cited by the SDP and moved into the coalition government with three ministers. In the 2016 parliamentary election, the IDS competed in a coalition with other Istrian parties. The coalition reached 1.83% and three seats.
