Laura Tomlinson , MBE [first] (Born January 31, 1985 in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate as Laura Bechtolsheimer ) is a British-Swiss dressage rider.

In December 2012 she was with the FEI’s dressage world rankings Mistral Hojris World ranking fourth. With Andretti H she also occupies 130th place. [2]

Due to her parents (her father, the entrepreneur and equestrian promoter Wilfried Otto Bechtolsheimer, competed for Great Britain at the 1995 dressage championships) [3] [4] , Laura Tomlinson was surrounded by horses in her childhood. In a row, she got her first pony at the age of three.

The dressage rider’s interest was at the beginning of her career of versatility. At the age of 12 she won the national championship of independent schools in Great Britain. Under the influence of her then coach Ian Woodhead, who looked after her up to the juniors, her interest in dressage grew. At the age of 14, she won the team silver medal with her pony at the European Pony Dressage Championship. Since then she has been a member of a British championship team every year.

At the age of 18 she moved to Markus Gribbe, now she is trained by her father and Klaus Balkenhol (whom she indicated as her sporting model). [5] [6] In 2005 she became the youngest British champion at the age of just 20. In 2007 she graduated in philosophy and political science at Bristol University.

Since the 2009 European Championships in Windsor and the CDI5* in Hickstead, Laura Tomlinson has been British record holder in the three most important dressage tests: with 76.638% in the Grand Prix and 80.083% in the Grand Prix Spécial (Windsor) and with 81.800 in the Grand Prix (Hickstead ). [7]

She was able to improve these services at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. So she reached the 15-year-old Danish Fuchs-Wallach Mistral Hojris In the Grand Prix of the team competition 82.511% [8] And was with less than two percentage points behind the Dutch winner Edward Gal with the exceptional Totilas. Afterwards Laura Tomlinson said that it was not only the highest rating she had ever received, but was also the best ride in her life. [9] In the Grand Prix Spécial, the 25-year-old British also secured second place behind Edward Gal with 81.708% and set her own British record. [ten] In the final Grand Prix Kreis, the rider and horse were rewarded for her performance with 85.350% and second place, again behind the outstanding Dutch. [11] Three silver medals crown the achievements of the successful British rider.

At the 2012 Olympic Games, in front of a home crowd in London, she reached Mistral Hojris The bronze medal in the individual ranking, which was determined in the Grand Prix. A few days earlier, the British dressage team had won Olympic team gold for the first time with the participation of Tomlinson.

Laura Tomlinson is one of four children from the marriage of Wilfried Bechtolsheimer and Ursula Bechtolsheimer born Kipp. On the mother’s side, it is the granddaughter of the German entrepreneur Karl-Heinz Kipp. [twelfth] Since her mother acquired civil rights there in Arosa many years ago, Laura Tomlinson also owns Swiss citizenship in addition to British. [13]

Already at the age of one year, Laura Tomlinson and her parents from Frankfurt am Main moved to Ampney St Peter, Gloucestershire, Great Britain, where her family runs a horse breeding and training stable. Since then she has had British citizenship. [14]

Since March 2013 she has been married to the polo player Mark Tomlinson, with whom she has been in a relationship since 2009 and has been engaged since August 2012. The church wedding took place on March 2, 2013 in the village church of Arosa. Among the numerous invited wedding guests were Catherine, Princess of Wales, William, Prince of Wales and Harry, Duke of Sussex. [15] [16] With the marriage, she accepted the last name Tomlinson.
