overview [ Edit | Edit the source text ]

Rings is the founding sport and the most successful department of the association. From 1985 to 1988, the 1st wrestling team even belonged to the 1st Bundesliga. Shortly before, Pasquale Passarelli had achieved the greatest individual success of a Johannisringer. At the 1984 Summer Olympics, he won the gold medal in the Greek-Roman style. In addition to Passarelli’s six German championship titles, the club again provided a German champion in the Greek-Roman style with Bernhard Rieger. The wrestlers are also characterized by good youth work, the highlight of which was the reaching of the German Youth Team Championship in 1988 and was repeated in 2006.

As a champion in the 2nd Bundesliga south of 2005, the 1st wrestling team succeeded in promoting the 1st Bundesliga Southeast, in which they could stay until the end of the 2008 season. After only one year in the 2nd Bundesliga, the promotion returned to the premier class of the struggle. [first] The relegation took place in 2012.
