Mister Maker is a British children’s television series commissioned by Michael Carrington at the BBC for CBeebies.[1] The series launched in 2007[2] and also airs on BBC One and BBC Two. In the United States and Latin America the series airs on the Discovery Familia network, dubbed in Spanish and in Portuguese in Brazil.[3] In Canada, the series airs on Treehouse TV and TVOKids. To date three series have been commissioned from The Foundation (part of RDF Media).[2][4] It also airs in Australia on ABC2. The series comprises a mixture of animation and real time content. A total of 4 spin-offs were produced, Mister Maker Comes to Town, Mister Maker Around the World, Mister Maker’s Arty Party, and Mister Maker at Home, which aired from 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2020, respectively. “Mister Maker” is portrayed by Phil Gallagher.

Episode format[edit]

Every episode has the following sequence:

  • Creative Idea – Art or craft.
  • The Shapes Dance – The Shapes dance leading to one of them presenting a puzzle.
  • Minute Make It Time – Timed 1-minute art or craft.
  • The Colour Kids – They make a picture using their clothes.
  • Frame-It! – Calm time to make usually a nice relaxing picture to put in a frame.
  • Random Picture – Either a messy picture or pictures made by objects.
  • Another Creative Idea – Another art or craft.
  • Time To Go – Tocky the bird tells you it’s the end of the show.
  • Mister Maker exits the studio – appears in white room seen in intro.
  • Black Bar within 6 minutes 20 seconds – Put away studio back in its box.

The show ends with Tocky telling Mister Maker to go and then shows Mister Maker how to put all this stuff back into the art box.
