According to Jorge Britto, when Camões was 18 years old, he lasted 27 minutes in a bout with former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who was 22.[5]His Portuguese nickname Morangò, which translates into Strawberry, originated from Camões’s love for a local Strawberry flavored yogurt drink while Camões was a young child living in Brazil. When he was 16, Camões constantly witnessed the late Hélio Gracie still practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in his 90s. Mixed martial arts career[edit]Ultimate Fighting Championship[edit]Camões signed a four fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and made his UFC debut at UFC 106 against veteran Caol Uno, with the fight ending in a draw after a point was deducted in the 2nd round against Camões for an illegal upkick. In his next UFC bout on March 27, 2010, at UFC 111 Camões fought Kurt Pellegrino. A fight that saw both Camões and Pellegrino grappling back and forth, ultimately a visibly exhausted Camões succumbed to a rear naked choke late in the second round.[6] Following the loss to Pellegrino, Camões was released from the UFC with a record of 0-1-1.Post-UFC career[edit]Following his release from the UFC, Camões signed with Tachi Palace Fights. He fought fellow UFC veteran Steve Lopez on February 18, 2011 and won via devastating head kick KO in the first round.Camões next fought on May 5, 2011 at Tachi Palace Fights 9 against fellow UFC veteran Efrain Escudero. He won the fight via unanimous decision.[7]Return to UFC[edit]After winning his last two fights since being released from the UFC, Camões was expected to face Reza Madadi on January 20, 2012 at UFC on FX 1, replacing an injured Rafaello Oliveira.[8] However, Madadi himself would later withdraw from the bout due to injury as well and was replaced by promotional newcomer Tommy Hayden.[9] Camões won the fight via submission in the first round.Camões next lost to Melvin Guillard by unanimous decision on July 7, 2012 at UFC 148.[10]Camões faced Jim Miller on December 28, 2013 at UFC 168.[11] He lost the fight via submission in the first round.[12]Camões was expected to face Gray Maynard on August 2, 2014 at UFC 176.[13] However, after the event was cancelled, the bout was rescheduled for UFC Fight Night 47 on August 16, 2014.[14] In turn, Maynard filled in as an injury replacement for another bout on the card and Camões was pulled from the event entirely.[15]Camões was expected to face Josh Shockley on October 25, 2014 at UFC 179.[16] However, Shockley pulled out of the bout citing injury and was replaced by Anthony Rocco Martin.[17] Both Camões and Martin missed weight for the bout, but neither were issued a fine.[18] Camões lost the fight via submission in the first round, and was subsequently released from the promotion for the second time in his career.Mixed martial arts record[edit]Professional record breakdown24 matches14 wins9 lossesBy knockout42By submission75By decision32Draws1Res.RecordOpponentMethodEventDateRoundTimeLocationNotesLoss14–9–1Anthony Rocco MartinSubmission (kimura)UFC 179October 25, 201414:16Rio de Janeiro, BrazilCatchweight (158 lbs) bout; Both fighters missed weight.Loss14–8–1Jim MillerSubmission (armbar)UFC 168December 28, 201313:42Las Vegas, Nevada, United StatesLoss14–7–1Melvin GuillardDecision (unanimous)UFC 148July 7, 201235:00Las Vegas, Nevada, United StatesWin14–6–1Tommy HaydenSubmission (rear-naked choke)UFC on FX: Guillard vs. MillerJanuary 20, 201214:03Nashville, Tennessee, United StatesWin13–6–1Efrain EscuderoDecision (unanimous)TPF 9: The ContendersMay 5, 201135:00Lemoore, California, United StatesWin12–6–1Steve LopezKO (head kick and punches)TPF 8: All or NothingFebruary 18, 201110:23Lemoore, California, United StatesLoss11–6–1Kurt PellegrinoSubmission (rear-naked choke)UFC 111March 27, 201024:20Newark, New Jersey, United StatesDraw11–5–1Caol UnoDraw (majority)UFC 106November 21, 200935:00Las Vegas, Nevada, United StatesCamões had one point deducted for an illegal up-kick to the head.Win11–5Torrance TaylorSubmission (rear-naked choke)Strikeforce Challengers: Evangelista vs. AinaMay 15, 200913:21Fresno, California, United StatesWin10–5Sam MorganSubmission (rear-naked choke)ShoXC: Hamman vs. Suganuma 2August 15, 200810:47Friant, California, United StatesWin9–5Joe CamachoKO (punches)ShoXC: Elite Challenger SeriesApril 5, 200813:20Friant, California, United StatesWin8–5Jean SilvaSubmission (armbar)Super Challenge 1October 10, 200612:10Barueri, BrazilWin7–5Luciano AzevedoDecision (unanimous)Super Challenge 1October 10, 200625:00Barueri, BrazilWin6–5Mauro Chimento Jr.Submission (guillotine choke)Super Challenge 1October 10, 200612:00Barueri, BrazilWin5–5Epitacio SilvaSubmission (gogoplata)Iron Fight 2September 2, 200612:02Rio de Janeiro, BrazilLoss4–5Luiz Dutra Jr.Decision (unanimous)Gold Fighters Championship 1May 20, 200635:00Rio de Janeiro, BrazilLoss4–4Gleison TibauSubmission (rear-naked choke)Meca World Vale Tudo 12July 9, 200512:15Rio de Janeiro, BrazilWin4–3Vitelmo Kubis BandeiraDecision (unanimous)Storm Samurai 6March 19, 200535:00Curitiba, BrazilLoss3–3Luiz Dutra Jr.Submission (knee injury)Meca World Vale Tudo 10December 20, 200311:50Porto Alegre, BrazilWin3–2Marcello RodriguezSubmission (smother choke)Sul Combat 1November 29, 20031N/APorto Alegre, BrazilWin2–2Wagner TulioTKO (punches)Meca World Vale Tudo 8May 16, 200311:40Curitiba, BrazilLoss1–2Luiz AzeredoTKO (punches)Meca World Vale Tudo 3November 14, 200021:36Curitiba, BrazilLoss1–1Anderson SilvaTKO (retirement)Brazilian Freestyle Circuit 1June 25, 1997125:14Campo Grande, BrazilWin1–0Eliezer NinjaTKO (punches)Brazilian Freestyle Circuit 1June 25, 199714:55Campo Grande, BrazilReferences[edit]^ a b c “Fabricio “Morango” Camoes”.
