Covering neighbourhoods in the north of Coatbridge (Blairhill, Cliftonville, Drumpellier, Dunbeth, Gartsherrie, Greenhill, Parklands, Summerlee, Sunnyside, Townhead and the town centre), the ward had a population of 15,146 in 2019.[3]It was created in 2007 as Coatbridge North and Glenboig, originally covering around twice as much territory between Coatbridge and Condorrat about 4 miles (6.4 km) further north, largely rural and sparsely populated but including the expanding commuter village of Glenboig. A nationwide boundary review in 2017 that recommended more representation for the area overall led to this rural half being placed in a separate new ward (along with Gartcosh and Moodiesburn from the Strathkelvin ward), but the electorate in the existing ward reduced only a slightly as a result and the number of seats was unaffected.Table of ContentsCouncillors[edit]Election Results[edit]2017 Election[edit]2012 Election[edit]2016 By-election[edit]2007 Election[edit]2009 By-election[edit]2011 By-election[edit]References[edit]Councillors[edit]Election Results[edit]2017 Election[edit]Coatbridge North – 4 seats[4]PartyCandidateFPv%Count1234567SNPKirsten Larson22.561,100 LabourAlex McVey (incumbent)21.061,027 ConservativeBen Callaghan14.83723724726728749806 LabourBill Shields (incumbent)13.536606657047217869131,228 SNPAllan Stubbs12.22596693694741788945975 IndependentJulie McAnulty (incumbent)8.67423428430460512 IndependentMartin McWilliams4.9239241243249 GreenGraham Kerr2.24109115116 Electorate: 12,055 Valid: 4,877 Spoilt: 162 Quota: 976 Turnout: 5,039 (41.8%) 2012 Election[edit]Coatbridge North and Glenboig – 4 seatsPartyCandidateFPv%Count12345LabourMichael McPake (incumbent)33.0%1,599 LabourBill Shields (incumbent)20.0%9001,467.8 SNPFulton James MacGregor15.8%765777.6810.2841.1947.4SNPJulie McAnulty15.0%725752.2818.1840.11,038.2IndependentMartin McWilliams (incumbent)10.2%496540.1651.4768 ConservativeWilliam Millar6.0%289291.4313.5 Electorate: 14,277 Valid: 4,841 Spoilt: 99 Quota: 969 Turnout: 4,940 (34.6%) 2016 By-election[edit]Coatbridge North and Glenboig By-election (22 September 2016) – 1 Seat[6]PartyCandidateFPv%Count1LabourAlex McVey41.71,350SNPStephen Kirley39.01,261ConservativeBen Callaghan11.3366GreenJohn Wilson6.0195UKIPNeil Wilson1.963Electorate: Valid: 3,235 Spoilt: 42 Quota: 1,618 Turnout: 3,277 (23.67%) 2007 Election[edit]2009 By-election[edit]The SNP’s John Wilson resigned following his election as an MSP.
