(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4A regional election was held in Madeira on 9 October 2011, to determine the composition of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. In the election, the Social Democratic Party, led by Alberto João Jardim, who has been in power since 1978, archived, once again, an absolute majority.[1]The campaign for the regional legislative election in Madeira ran from 25 September to 7 October 2011.The election was marked by the discovery of a “financial hole” in the accounts of the Regional Government, which may have influenced the election results.[2] In fact, the PSD obtained its worst result ever in a regional election (48.56%),[3] resulting in the loss of eight deputies in relation to the regional elections of 2007. The CDS–PP grew from 5% to 17.6% and from 4th most voted party to second most voted party, a result that was considered historical by party leader Paulo Portas. The CDS–PP and PS-Madeira claimed that there were irregularities in the election,[4] specifically because of the transportation of voters to the polls with vehicles of various public bodies which led to the formalization of a complaint to the National Elections Commission (CNE).[5][6] (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4Table of ContentsElectoral system[edit]Parties[edit]Opinion polling[edit]Summary of votes and seats[edit]See also[edit]References[edit]External links[edit]Electoral system[edit]The 47 members of the Madeiran regional parliament are elected in a single constituency by proportional representation under the D’Hondt method, coinciding with the territory of the Region.[7]Parties[edit]The parties that partook in the election, and their leaders, were:[8]Opinion polling[edit]Date(s) ConductedPolling FirmPSDPSCDS-PPCDUBEPTPMPTPNDPANOthersLead2–4 October 2011Eurosondagem50.517.010.55.53.52.73.32.02.52.533.51–2 October 2011Universidade Católica48.014.016.05.02.05.02.04.02.02.032.030 September–3 October 2011INTERCAMPUS53.516.911.83.92.5––2.8–8.636.625–27 July 2011Eurosondagem56.615.910.23.92.82.32.12.12.31.840.730–31 May 2011Eurosondagem50.517.215.04.53.8––––9.033.36 May 2007Election Results64.233 seats15.47 seats5.32 seats5.42 seats3.01 seats–2.31 seats2.11 seats–2.30 seats48.8Summary of votes and seats[edit]Summary of the 9 October 2011 Legislative Assembly of Madeira elections resultsPartiesVotes%±pp swingMPsMPs %/votes %20072011±%±Social Democratic71,56148.5715.73325853.1917.01.10People’s25,97517.6312.329719.1514.81.09Socialist16,94211.503.976112.772.11.11Labour10,1156.87——3—6.38—0.93Unitary Democratic Coalition5,5463.763.82112.132.10.57New Democracy4,8253.271.21102.130.00.65Party for Animals and Nature3,1342.13——1—2.13—1.00Earth2,8391.930.31102.130.01.10Left Bloc2,5121.701.31010.002.10.0Total valid143,44997.360.447470100.000.0—Blank ballots1,0880.740.1Invalid ballots2,8001.900.5Total147,337100.00Registered voters/turnout256,75557.383.4Source: Comissão Nacional de EleiçõesVote sharePSD 48.57%CDS-PP 17.63%PS 11.50%PTP 6.87%CDU 3.76%PND 3.27%PAN 2.13%MPT 1.93%BE 1.70%Blank/Invalid 2.64%Parliamentary seatsPSD 53.19%CDS-PP 19.15%PS 12.77%PTP 6.38%CDU 2.13%PND 2.13%PAN 2.13%MPT 2.13%See also[edit]References[edit]^ “Madeira.
