It is designed by Glenn Howells Architects, the developer is Moda Living and the main contractor is John Sisk & Son.[1]The building is 42 storeys in height, consisting of a 39-storey residential building (30 studios, 163 one bed, 260 two bed and 28 three-bedroom apartments) which sits on a three-storey podium with over 30,000 square feet (2,800\u00a0m2) of community amenity space. The build is valued at \u00a3183m and was completed in May 2022.[2]The tower sits perpendicular to the street with the front-facing Five Ways. Originally, a helipad was proposed to be located on top of the building on a podium, but this was removed from the design, though the podium remained with some minor changes.[citation needed]The tower was scheduled to be presented before a planning committee in late August 2006. Construction of the skyscraper began in April 2019.[6]The Mercian is the tallest building in Birmingham and the second tallest structure, after the BT Tower.
