The new homologation grants for 1 August were announced on 29 May during the running of Round 7 of the Touring Car Championship at Sydney’s Oran Park by ABC television commentators Will Hagon and John Smailes. This drew public criticism from the drivers who were only told about the grants post race. As a result of the way CAMS announced the homologation grants, both the Roadways and Nissan teams boycotted of the final round at Lakeside, despite Nissan driver George Fury going into the round as the championship leader and needing only to finish 9th in the race to claim the title. The boycott ultimately cost Fury the championship as his only rival Allan Moffat finished a safe 3rd to claim his fourth and last ATCC series win.During the year CAMS also announced that the 1984 season would be the last for the locally developed Group C category which had been in place since 1973, before the move to the FIA’s international Group A rules from 1985. This in effect took the homologation issue out of CAMS hands, with the FIA having the final say on all homologated cars and parts.Touring Cars competed at 19 race meetings in Australia during the 1983 season, contesting the following events:Table of ContentsRace calendar[edit]Australian Touring Car Championship[edit]Australian Endurance Championship[edit]Australian Endurance Championship of Makes[edit]Castrol 400[edit]James Hardie 1000[edit]AMSCAR Series[edit]Australian Grand Prix support race[edit]References[edit]External links[edit]Race calendar[edit]DateSeriesCircuitCity \/ stateWinnerTeamCarReport6 FebruaryATCC Round 1Calder Park RacewayMelbourne, VictoriaAllan MoffatPeter Stuyvesant International RacingMazda RX-720 FebruaryATCC Round 2Sandown RacewayMelbourne, VictoriaAllan GriceSTP Roadways RacingHolden VH Commodore SS6 MarchAMSCAR Round 1Amaroo ParkSydney, New South WalesTerry ShielTerry ShielMazda RX-713 MarchATCC Round 3Symmons Plains RacewayLaunceston, TasmaniaAllan GriceSTP Roadways RacingHolden VH Commodore SS10 AprilAMSCAR Round 2Amaroo ParkSydney, New South WalesTerry ShielTerry ShielMazda RX-724 AprilATCC Round 4Wanneroo ParkPerth, Western AustraliaAllan MoffatPeter Stuyvesant International RacingMazda RX-71 MayATCC Round 5Adelaide International RacewayAdelaide, South AustraliaPeter BrockMarlboro Holden Dealer TeamHolden VH Commodore SS15 MayATCC Round 6Surfers Paradise International RacewaySurfers Paradise, QueenslandAllan MoffatPeter Stuyvesant International RacingMazda RX-722 MayAMSCAR Round 3Amaroo ParkSydney, New South WalesFred GibsonNissan Motor CoNissan Bluebird Turbo29 MayATCC Round 7Oran Park RacewaySydney, New South WalesAllan MoffatPeter Stuyvesant International RacingMazda RX-719 JuneATCC Round 8Lakeside International RacewayBrisbane, QueenslandPeter BrockMarlboro Holden Dealer TeamHolden VH Commodore SS10 JulyAMSCAR Round 4Amaroo ParkSydney, New South WalesTerry ShielTerry ShielMazda RX-77 AugustSilastic 300AEC Round 1AECM Round 1Amaroo ParkSydney, New South WalesGeorge FuryNissan Motor CoNissan Bluebird Turbo21 AugustValvoline 250AEC Round 2AECM Round 2Oran Park RacewaySydney, New South WalesGeorge FuryNissan Motor CoNissan Bluebird Turbo11 SeptemberCastrol 400AEC Round 3AECM Round 3Sandown RacewayMelbourne, VictoriaAllan MoffatPeter Stuyvesant International RacingMazda RX-7report2 OctoberJames Hardie 1000AEC Round 4AECM Round 4Mount Panorama CircuitBathurst, New South WalesJohn HarveyPeter BrockLarry PerkinsMarlboro Holden Dealer TeamHolden VH Commodore SSreport27 OctoberGold Coast 300AEC Round 5AECM Round 5Surfers Paradise International RacewaySurfers Paradise, QueenslandAllan GriceSTP Roadways RacingHolden VH Commodore SS13 NovemberBerri Fruit Juices TrophyAustralian Grand Prix support raceCalder Park RacewayMelbourne, VictoriaGeorge FuryNissan Motor CoNissan Bluebird Turbo20 NovemberHumes Guardrail 300AEC Round 6AECM Round 6Adelaide International RacewayAdelaide, South AustraliaPeter BrockMarlboro Holden Dealer TeamHolden VH Commodore SSAustralian Touring Car Championship[edit]Australian Endurance Championship[edit]Australian Endurance Championship of Makes[edit]Castrol 400[edit]James Hardie 1000[edit]AMSCAR Series[edit]Australian Grand Prix support race[edit]A Group C race was a support event at the 1983 Australian Grand Prix meeting.
