On January 6, 2013, Marrone was introduced as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett departed for Buffalo as well, leaving a number of coaching positions open. On January 9, Syracuse announced the promotion of defensive coordinator Scott Shafer to head coach. Shortly thereafter, George McDonald was announced as the new offensive coordinator, and Chuck Bullough was announced as the new defensive coordinator.Personnel[edit]Coaching staff[edit]2012 Coaching staffHead coachOffensive coachesTim Lester – QuarterbacksGeorge McDonald – Offensive CoordinatorRob moore – Wide ReceiversPat perles – Offensive LineDeAndre smith – Running BacksDefensive coachesSupport staffBob brotzki – Assistant Athletics Director for Player DevelopmentWilliam hicks – Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic PerformanceKevin van derzee – Director of Football OperationsSchedule[edit]DateTimeOpponentSiteTVResultAttendanceAugust 313:30 pmvs. Penn State*ABC/ESPN2L 17–2361,202September 76:00 pmat No. 20 Northwestern*BTNL 27–4838,033September 144:00 pmWagner*ESPN3W 54–033,299September 2112:30 pmTulane*ACCNW 52–1736,128October 53:30 pmNo. 4 ClemsonABC/ESPN2L 14–4948,961October 123:30 pmat NC StateACCRSNW 24–1056,639October 1912:30 pmat Georgia TechACCNL 0–5645,704November 212:30 pmWake ForestACCRSNW 13–038,550November 93:30 pmat MarylandACCRSNW 20–337,213November 163:30 pmat No. 2 Florida StateABC/ESPN2L 3–5974,491November 2312:30 pmPittsburghACCNL 16–1735,317November 303:30 pmBoston CollegeACCRSNW 34–3137,406December 276:00 pmvs. Minnesota*ESPNW 21–1732,327[1]Game summaries[edit]Penn State[edit]Syracuse vs. Penn State (New York’s College Classic) 1234Total• Nittany Lions0671023 Orange037717Date: August 31Location: MetLife StadiumEast Rutherford, NJGame start: 3:35 PM EDTElapsed time: 3:34Game attendance: 61,202Game weather: CloudyReferee: Mike DefeeTelevision network: ABC/ESPN2Scoring summary212:32SURoss Krautman 32 yd field goalSU 3–025:59PSUSam Fickman 36 yd field goalTIE 3–320:55PSUSam Fickman 35 yd field goalPSU 6–3311:46PSUAllen Robinson 51 yd pass from Christian Hackenberg (Sam Fickman kick)PSU 13–3311:05SUJerome Smith 10 yd run (Ross Krautman kick)PSU 13–10414:16PSUSam Fickman 46 yd field goalPSU 16–30411:39PSUGeno Lewis 54 yd pass from Christian Hackenberg (Sam Fickman kick)PSU 23–1046:58SUJerome Smith 1 yd run (Ross Krautman kick)PSU 23–17Previous MeetingPrevious Winner2009Penn State, 28–7Penn State Leads Series: 43–23–5The Orange opened their season by traveling to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ to renew their rivalry with the Penn State Nittany Lions.
