The state legislature met in regular session at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City from January 3 to July 28, 1961, during the term of Governor J. Howard Edmondson.[1]J. D. McCarty was elected as Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, breaking the tradition of governor-backed speakers.[1] McCarty would go on to become Oklahoma’s first three-term speaker.[1]Table of ContentsDates of session[edit]Leadership[edit]Democratic leadership[edit]Republican leadership[edit]Members[edit]Senate[edit]House of Representatives[edit]References[edit]Dates of session[edit]January 3 to July 28, 1961[1]Previous: 27th Legislature \u2022 Next: 29th LegislatureLeadership[edit]Democratic leadership[edit]Republican leadership[edit]Members[edit]Senate[edit]DistrictNameParty1Leon B.
