(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4The winners were Wolverhampton Wanderers, who defeated Burnley 2–0 in the final. This marked the first time two previous English champions have met in the final of this competition, and made Wolves the first former champions to have won the trophy, Portsmouth the only other having won the EFL trophy in 2019.The competition began on 13 October 1987 and ended with the final on 29 May 1988.The tournament begins with clubs divided into a Northern and a Southern section, and teams entering a preliminary group stage. Each section then gradually eliminates the qualifying teams in knock-out fashion until each has a winning finalist. At this point, the two winning finalists faced each other in the combined final for the honour of the trophy.Table of Contents (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4Preliminary round[edit]Northern Section[edit]Southern Section[edit]First round[edit]Northern Section[edit]Southern Section[edit]Quarter-finals[edit]Northern Section[edit]Southern Section[edit]Area semi-finals[edit]Northern Section[edit]Southern Section[edit]Area finals[edit]Northern Area final[edit]Southern Area final[edit]External links[edit]Preliminary round[edit]Northern Section[edit]DateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Rochdale0–0Tranmere RoversOct 27Tranmere Rovers1–2BurnleyNov 24Burnley3–2RochdaleDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Carlisle United2–1Chester CityOct 28Chester City2–1BlackpoolNov 24Blackpool0–1Carlisle UnitedDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Bolton Wanderers0–0Preston NEOct 27Preston NE5–2Stockport CountyNov 24Stockport County1–3Bolton WanderersDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Wigan Athletic2–2Crewe AlexandraNov 24Bury5–2Wigan AthleticDec 04Crewe Alexandra0–0BuryDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13York City3–4DarlingtonNov 24Chesterfield2–0York CityDec 05Darlington2–1ChesterfieldDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Rotherham United1–0ScarboroughOct 28Scarborough0–3SunderlandNov 24Sunderland7–1Rotherham UnitedDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Scunthorpe United2–0Grimsby TownOct 27Grimsby Town2–1Halifax TownNov 24Halifax Town3–0Scunthorpe UnitedPlay-off to determine second place:Dec 15Grimsby Town1–2Scunthorpe UnitedDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Doncaster Rovers0–1Mansfield TownOct 27Mansfield Town3–2Hartlepool UnitedNov 24Hartlepool United1–0Doncaster RoversSouthern Section[edit]DateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Notts County1–0Northampton TownOct 28Northampton Town1–0BrentfordNov 24Brentford3–2Notts CountyDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Cardiff City3–2WrexhamOct 27Wrexham2–2WalsallNov 24Walsall3–1Cardiff CityDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Aldershot3–1GillinghamOct 27Gillingham2–2Leyton OrientNov 24Leyton Orient2–2AldershotDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Colchester United3–2Peterborough UnitedNov 24Cambridge United0–0Colchester UnitedDec 01Peterborough United3–0Cambridge UnitedDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Torquay United2–0Bristol RoversOct 28Bristol Rovers0–2Hereford UnitedNov 25Hereford United0–2Torquay UnitedDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Newport County2–0Port ValeOct 26Port Vale2–0Exeter CityNov 24Exeter City0–1Newport CountyDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 13Southend United1–0FulhamOct 27Fulham1–6BrightonNov 25Brighton3–2Southend UnitedDateTeam 1 Score Team 2Oct 27Swansea City1–1WolvesNov 10Bristol City2–0Swansea CityNov 24Wolves3–1Bristol CityFirst round[edit]Northern Section[edit]Southern Section[edit]Quarter-finals[edit]Northern Section[edit]Southern Section[edit]Area semi-finals[edit]Northern Section[edit]Southern Section[edit]Area finals[edit]Northern Area final[edit]Burnley won 3–1 on aggregate.Southern Area final[edit]Wolverhampton Wanderers won 4–1 on aggregate.External links[edit]National teamsLeague competitionsLevels 1–4Level 5Levels 6–7Levels 8–9Isthmian League (Two North, Two South)Combined Counties League (level 8 only)Eastern Counties League (level 8 only)Essex Senior League (level 8 only)Hellenic League (Premier, One)Kent League (level 8 only)Midland Football Combination (level 8 only)North West Counties League (One, Two)Northern Counties East League (Premier, One)Northern League (One, Two)South Midlands League (Premier, One)Spartan League (Premier, One)Sussex County League (One, Two)United Counties League (Premier, One)Wessex League (level 8 only)West Midlands (Regional) League (level 8 only)Western League (Premier, One)Cup competitions (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4"},{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
@id":"https://wiki.edu.vn/en/wiki40/#breadcrumbitem
Enzyklopädie"}},{"@type":"ListItem
@id":"https://wiki.edu.vn/en/wiki40/1987-88-associate-members-cup-wikipedia/#breadcrumbitem
1987–88 Associate Members’ Cup – Wikipedia"}}]}]
