Eastern Michigan competed as a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) West Division. The team was coached by Jeff Woodruff in his final season at EMU. Following the 38–10 loss to Central Michigan, Woodruff, who had compiled a 9–34 record in 3 3⁄4 seasons, was fired on November 3.[1] Running backs coach Al Lavan was named the interim coach while the school conducted a national search for the new permanent coach,[2] and under his leadership the team won two of their final three games. After the end of the season, Northwestern running backs coach Jeff Genyk was hired as the new EMU head coach.[3]Table of ContentsSchedule[edit]Game summaries[edit]East Tennessee State[edit]Western Illinois[edit]Akron[edit]Navy[edit]Maryland[edit]Western Michigan[edit]Toledo[edit]Bowling Green[edit]Central Michigan[edit]Central Florida[edit]Ball State[edit]Northern Illinois[edit]References[edit]External links[edit]Schedule[edit]DateTimeOpponentSiteResultAttendanceAugust 287:00 pmEast Tennessee State*W 28–21[4]11,725September 47:00 pmWestern Illinois*Rynearson StadiumYpsilanti, MichiganL 12–34[5]11,123September 136:00 pmat AkronL 17–24[6]10,262September 201:30 pmat Navy*L 7–39[7]27,627September 276:00 pmMaryland*Rynearson StadiumYpsilanti, MichiganL 13–37[8]19,628October 42:00 pmWestern MichiganRynearson StadiumYpsilanti, MichiganL 3–31[9]19,963October 117:00 pmat ToledoL 14–49[10]22,807October 186:00 pmBowling GreenRynearson StadiumYpsilanti, MichiganL 20–33[11]6,154November 11:00 pmat Central MichiganL 10–38[12]8,391November 812:00 pmCentral FloridaRynearson StadiumYpsilanti, MichiganW 19–13[13]5,150November 151:00 pmBall StateRynearson StadiumYpsilanti, MichiganW 38–14[14]5,075November 222:05 pmat Northern IllinoisL 24–38[15]16,589[16]EMU was briefly scheduled to host the University of South Florida Bulls in 2003.
