Produced by bassist John Spiker, it was released in North America on November 2, 2018, by Columbia Records. In addition to core members Jack Black and Kyle Gass, the album also marks the return of John Konesky (electric guitar), Spiker (bass) and Dave Grohl (drums), who have all performed on previous Tenacious D albums. The album features songs and audio snippets from Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto, the band’s animatic YouTube series to support the album. Background[edit]In June 2012, when asked about a sequel to Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, Black stated that the band had “found a loophole with the internet and animated shorts. That’s the world we’re looking to dive into, and not just for money, mainly for art.”[1] The band would mention later on in that year that they may make an Internet series “exclusive to YouTube”[2] The project was a fantasy for Black and Gass for a few years, until the Donald Trump Presidential Campaign inspired them to write a post-apocalyptic pilot episode in 2016. The remaining episodes would be completed between 2017 and 2018.[3]Release and promotion[edit]The band filmed a teaser for their Facebook page of them in the studio in May 2016.[8] In December 2017, whilst on Kerrang Radio promoting Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Black stated that the title of a new animated series would be called Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto.[9]In May 2018, the band entered and left the stage of Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Mexico City to recordings of “Post-Apocalypto Theme” and “Post-Apocalypto Theme (Reprise)” – this being the world reveal of these tracks.[10] A few days later, the band uploaded a tour trailer to their website and social media, also teasing a new album.[11]Track listing[edit]All tracks are written by Jack Black and Kyle Gass.Title1.“Post-Apocalypto Theme”0:372.“Desolation”1:173.“Hope”1:594.“Cave Women”1:265.“Making Love”2:566.“Scientists”1:177.“Take Us Into Space”1:568.“I’ve Got to Go”1:509.“Fuck Yo-Yo Ma”1:3410.“Reunion/Not So Fast”1:0811.“Daddy Ding Dong”1:4512.“Chainsaw Bazooka Machine Gun”1:0013.“Robot”2:2614.“March”1:2315.“Turd Whistle”0:3916.“Colors”2:2017.“Who’s Your Daddy?”0:4818.“JB Jr Rap”1:3119.“Woman Time”1:2320.“Save the World”0:4421.“Post-Apocalypto Theme (Reprise)”0:39Total length:30:38Personnel[edit]Official membersAdditional membersOrchestraDrew Taubenfeld – steel guitarPaul Cartwright – stringsMona Tian – stringsMolly Rogers – stringsDerek Stein – stringsTechnicalJohn Spiker – producer, mixing engineerMatt Wolach – assistant engineerBo Bodnar – assistant engineerWill Borza – assistant engineerHowie Weinberg – mastering[12]References[edit]^ “Interview with Jack Black and Kyle Gass from Tenacious D: Rising Like The Ashes | The Aquarian”. www.theaquarian.com.
