The Argonauts finished with a 4–14 record, matching their win–loss record from a year prior, and did not qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season. This was the third season with Jim Popp as general manager and first for new head coach Corey Chamblin who replaced Marc Trestman following a disappointing campaign in 2018 (failing to meet expectations following a Grey Cup victory in 2017).[1] On October 8, 2019, Popp was relieved as general manager of the team, & was replaced by Michael “Pinball” Clemons with 4 games remaining in the season.[2] The announcement about Jim Popp being relieved of his duties came not long after the Argonauts were eliminated from playoff contention during regular season play for the second consecutive season. Their week 17 loss at BC Place against the BC Lions marked the second consecutive year the Argonauts were eliminated from playoff contention, having won only 4 games in 2018.[3]Table of ContentsOffseason[edit]Foreign drafts[edit]CFL draft[edit]Preseason[edit]Schedule[edit]Regular season[edit]Standings[edit]Schedule[edit]Roster[edit]Coaching staff[edit]References[edit]External links[edit]Offseason[edit]Foreign drafts[edit]For the first time in its history, the CFL held drafts for foreign players from Mexico and Europe.[4] Like all other CFL teams, the Argonauts held three non-tradeable selections in the 2019 CFL–LFA Draft, which took place on January 14, 2019. The 2019 European CFL Draft took place on April 11, 2019 where all teams held one non-tradeable pick.[5][6][7]CFL draft[edit]The 2019 CFL Draft took place on May 2, 2019.[8][9] The Argonauts had the first selection in each round of the draft by virtue of finishing last in league standings, less any traded picks. Consequently, the club selected first overall for the first time since the 1997 CFL Draft and hold nine selections in total. The Argos acquired another third-round pick from the Edmonton Eskimos after trading Martese Jackson to them.[10] The team also acquired another seventh-round selection after trading Brian Jones to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and sent their eighth-round pick to Hamilton in exchange for Abdul Kanneh.[11][12]RoundPickPlayerPositionSchoolHometown11Shane RichardsOLOklahoma StateCalgary, AB29Robbie SmithDLWilfrid LaurierBrampton, ON218Matthew BoatengDBFresno StateToronto, ON320Michael O’ConnorQBBritish ColumbiaOrleans, ON323Kurleigh Gittens, Jr.WRWilfrid LaurierOttawa, ON429Maurice SimbaOLConcordiaLaval, QC538Jamie HarryDBOttawaLachine, QC647Joe SpazianiLSVirginiaHingham, MA, USA756Phil IlokiWRCarletonMontreal, QC762Eric StarczalaOLGuelphCambridge, ONPreseason[edit]The Argonauts’ home preseason game was played at the University of Toronto’s Varsity Stadium with tickets being sold to students from Greater Toronto Area schools.[13]Schedule[edit][14][15] # Games played with colour uniforms.Regular season[edit]Standings[edit]Schedule[edit]The Argonauts home opener against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats was originally slated for a 7:00pm start local time. At the request of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ fan base, kickoff was adjusted to a 4:00pm start in lieu of a concert at 8:00pm at a nearby venue.[16] In week 11, the Argonauts were the “home” team as they played the Montreal Alouettes in the fourth regular season installment of Touchdown Atlantic in Moncton, New Brunswick.[17][18]WeekGameDateKickoffOpponentResultsTVVenueAttendanceSummaryScoreRecord1Bye21Sat, June 224:00 p.m. EDTHamilton Tiger-CatsL 14–640–1TSN/RDSBMO Field16,734Recap32Mon, July 17:00 p.m. EDT@ Saskatchewan RoughridersL 7–320–2TSN/RDS2Mosaic Stadium30,121Recap43Sat, July 67:00 p.m. EDTBC LionsL 17–180–3TSNBMO Field11,428[19]Recap54Fri, July 128:30 p.m. EDT@ Winnipeg Blue BombersL 21–480–4TSN/RDSIG Field24,187Recap65Thu, July 189:00 p.m. EDT@ Calgary StampedersL 16–260–5TSN/ESPN2McMahon Stadium23,355Recap76Thu, July 259:30 p.m. EDT@ Edmonton EskimosL 0–260–6TSNCommonwealth Stadium30,368Recap87Thu, Aug 17:00 p.m. EDTWinnipeg Blue BombersW 28–271–6TSN/RDS/ESPN2BMO Field12,072Recap9Bye108Fri, Aug 167:30 p.m. EDTEdmonton EskimosL 26–411–7TSN/RDS2BMO Field16,490Recap119Sun, Aug 2512:00 p.m. EDTMontreal AlouettesL 22–281–8TSN/RDS/ESPNewsCroix-Bleue Medavie Stadium10,126Recap1210Mon, Sept 21:00 p.m. EDT@ Hamilton Tiger-CatsL 27–381–9TSNTim Hortons Field25,093Recap1311Sat, Sept 71:00 p.m. EDT@ Ottawa RedblacksW 46–172–9TSN/RDS2TD Place Stadium22,489Recap14Bye1512Fri, Sept 207:00 p.m. EDTCalgary StampedersL 16–232–10TSN/RDS2BMO Field9,819Recap1613Sat, Sept 287:00 p.m. EDTSaskatchewan RoughridersL 16–412–11TSNBMO Field12,406Recap1714Sat, Oct 510:00 p.m. EDT@ BC LionsL 8–552–12TSNBC Place16,786Recap1815Fri, Oct 117:00 p.m. EDTOttawa RedblacksW 28–213–12TSN/RDS2/ESPNewsBMO Field10,368Recap1916Fri, Oct 187:00 p.m. EDT@ Montreal AlouettesL 24–273–13TSN/RDS/ESPNewsMolson Stadium17,003Recap2017Sat, Oct 264:00 p.m. EDTOttawa RedblacksW 39–94–13TSN/RDSBMO Field12,995Recap2118Sat, Nov 27:00 p.m. EDT@ Hamilton Tiger-CatsL 18–214–14TSNTim Hortons Field22,804Recap[14][20][21][22] # Games played with colour uniforms. # Games played with white uniforms.Roster[edit]Coaching staff[edit]References[edit]^ “Toronto Argonauts Relieve Marc Trestman of Head Coaching Duties”.
