It has an apparent magnitude of 5.18,[2] allowing it to be seen with the naked eye under ideal conditions. The object is located at a distance of 308 light years[1] but is receding with a heliocentric radial velocity of 39\u00a0km\/s.[5]       (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});after-content-x4HD 53501 has a stellar classification of K3 III,[3] indicating that it is a red giant. It has 139% the mass of the Sun and an enlarged radius of 20\u00a0R\u2609.[6] It radiates at 126 times the luminosity of the Sun[7] from its photosphere at an effective temperature of 4,169 K,[6] giving it an orange glow.
