James Prescott Joule (phiên âm: Giêm Pre-xcốt Jun) (phát âm: /ˈdʒuːl/[1]; 24 tháng 12 năm 1818 - 11 tháng 10 năm 1889) là một nhà vật lý người Anh sinh tại Salford, Lancashire. Joule là người học về nhiệt và đã có công phát hiện ra mối liên hệ của nhiệt với công. Phát hiện này đã dẫn đến sự ra đời của định luật bảo toàn năng lượng, định luật đã tạo tiền đề cho sự phát triển của nguyên lý thứ nhất của nhiệt động lực học. Đơn vị công joule, được đặt theo tên của ông. James Joule là người lập nên định luật Joule–Lenz, định luật về tính nhiệt tỏa ra từ một đoạn dây với dòng điện chạy qua.
