Heathrow, tuy nhiên, phục vụ nhiều khách quốc tế hơn bất kỳ sân bay nào khác. Heathrow là sân bay nhộn nhịp nhất Vương quốc Anh, lớn nhất châu Âu. Khi xếp theo lưu lượng hành khách, Heathrow là sân bay bận rộn thứ ba thế giới, sau sân bay quốc tế Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta và sân bay quốc tế Thủ đô Bắc Kinh, thời điểm tháng 9 năm 2014[3]. Từ năm 2000-2013 nó đã ở vị trí thứ ba với trong 10 trên 14 năm, với một vị trí trung bình 3.14.

Trong năm 2011. Heathrow là sân bay bận rộn nhất ở châu Âu tính theo tổng lưu lượng hành khách, hành khách với hơn 13.9% so với sân bay Paris-Charles de Gaulle [4] và 23.0% so với sân bay Frankfurt [5].Tuy nhiên, nó đã ở vị trí thứ hai sau Charles de Gaulle trong tổng số lượt chuyến bay trong năm 2011 với sản lượng khai thác ít hơn 5.1% và thấp hơn sân bay Charles de Gaulle[4].
