Im Dorf Auldgirth gibt es das Auldgirth Inn und die ehemalige Auldgirth Primary School, die im Jahr 2000 geschlossen wurde.[1]  Urspr\u00fcnglich lebten Einwohner von Auldgirth in der N\u00e4he des A76, aber in den letzten Jahren hat sich dies aufgrund von Verj\u00fcngungsprogrammen auf die Randgebiete ausgeweitet.  Der Name Auldgirth stammt aus dem Mittelenglischen ald (e) Umfang, was “altes Gehege” bedeutet.[2]  Zu einer Zeit hatte es einen bemannten Bahnhof, der eine Meile s\u00fcdlich des Dorfes, kurz vor dem Weiler Dalswinton, lag.
