International Taekwon-Do Federation ( ITF ) is the name of several taekwondo associations that were created by splitting from the original bandage. [first] The ITF serves to promote and spread Korean martial arts. The main tasks are the coordination and certification of competitions and courses, the standardization of techniques, teaching and examination content (form run, free combat, breach tests), the cooperation with national member organizations and the certification of Dan carriers. [first]

The ITF was on March 22, 1966 by General Choi Hong Hi (Kor. Hong Hee Choi ) Founded in Seoul, South Korea. In 1972 the founder emigrated to Canada and so the headquarters were moved to Toronto. [2] The headquarters were relocated to Vienna in 1985. [3]

Shortly before the death of Choi Hong Hi in 2002 there was a first division of the ITF. Choi Jung-Hwa, the son of Hong Hi, started self-employed with his own association after the contacts from Hong Hi to North Korea had come to political controversy. [2] The association seat was initially in Drayton (Oxfordshire) in the United Kingdom and was now relocated to Hillingdon, a district of London. [4] [5]

Another International Taekwon-Do Federation is based in Madrid.

The ITF in Vienna are affiliated worldwide that take care of organizational issues, examination regulations and acceptance and orientation of competitions in 123 countries at the national level. In Germany, for example, ITF is through the International Taekwon-Do Federation Germany e. V. (ITF-D), in Austria by the Itf-Austria and in Switzerland through the I.T.F. Switzerland Taekwon-Do Federation .

Also exist Continental Federations such as the All Europe Taekwon-Do Federation (A.E.T.F.) In the Polish Lublin or the European International Taekwon-Do Federation (E.I.T.F.) in South Wales in English, in which 33 and 37 European national associations are organized. These associations also have the goal of further developing and spreading Taekwondo. They also represent the ITF in Vienna. In addition, aspects of European cooperation and coordination are laid down in the statutes.

Forms or seul In Korean ( frame , also: Length ), originally Hyeong ( brother ) called an important aspect of Taekwondo training. You are comparable to the Say of the karate. All forms (with exceptions from YUL-GOK, EUL-JI and Tong-il) begin with a defense technique, which is intended to underline the defensive character of the Taekwondo. The movements begin and end in the same place.

There are 24 forms in the official ITF curriculum-analogous to the 24 hours a day. The names typically refer either to events in Korean history or historically important Koreans. Such a reference also exists to other properties of the forms, such as the number of movements, the step diagram or the last technology.

The shapes were developed by General Choi Hong Hi and in the “Encyclopedia of the Taekwon-Do” (English. The Encyclopedia of Taekwon-Do ) Documented in 15 volumes, the last edition comes from 1999. volumes 8 to 15 of the extensive work describe the 24 forms and show possible applications of some movements.

Competitions take place in a 9 × 9 meter (optional 8 × 8 meter) ring, which is marked by colored mats or floor markings and, unlike boxing or kickboxing, is not limited by ropes. The rules prohibit z. B. leaving the combat surface, soil touch with a part of the body other than feet, foot sweepers, unsportsmanlike behavior, attacking an opponent lying on the ground or with knee, elbow or forehead and too hard contact. The official rules for ITF free fight are available on the ITF website. [6] The ITF-D competition regulations can also be found on the corresponding website. [7]
