John “Jumpin’ Johnny” Baum (Born on June 17, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) he is a former American basketball player who played for two seasons in the NBA, two more in ABA and another 4 in the CBA. With 1.96 meters tall, he did it in the forward position.

Played for four seasons with the Owls of the University of Temple in which he averaged 17.9 points and 12.0 rebounds per party, [ first ] It retains the record of its most rebounding university throughout a race, with 1,042. In 1969 he was the architect of the achievement of the NIT by the Owls , being the top scorer of the team that season, with 19.3 points per game, and the maximum rebounder, with 13.3 rebounds. [ 2 ]

He was chosen in the twenty -third position of the 1969 NBA draft by Chicago Bulls, [ 3 ] And also for the Utah Stars in the ABA draft, signing for the former. He had previously been chosen in the 1968 NBA Draft by Los Angeles Lakers in position 187. [ 4 ] In his first season he barely played 3 games due to his injuries. Already the following year he played on a regular basis, although he was one of the last men of the bench, averaging 4.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in just over 8 minutes per game. [ 5 ]

In 1971 he changed his league, signing for the New York Nets of the ABA, [ 4 ] Where in the two seasons that remains in the team, it also does not have too many game options. In 1973 he was sent to Memphis Tams together with Jim Ard in exchange for the rights of Larry Kenon. [ 4 ] There he would play his best games as a professional, averaging 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds, [ 6 ] That they did not serve to obtain the confidence of his coach, being cut before the end of the season. He then signed for the Indiana Pacers, where he played the last games of the regular season and the play-offs.

The last four years of his sports career spent them in the CBA, playing two seasons with the Hazleton Bullets and two others with the Allentown Jets.
