Oscar Schmidt – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oscar Daniel Bezerra Schmidt (Natal, Río Grande del Norte, Brazil; February 16, 1958) is a Brazilian former Brazilian 2.05 meters high. He played in two teams from Italy (Caserta and Pavia), in one from Spain (Forum Valladolid) and the rest of his career in his native country.

He retired on May 26, 2003 with 45 years, after beating the historical record of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar points with 49 737. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] He participated in five Olympic Games with the Brazilian basketball team, being one of the basketball players who has had the most Olympic presences and the top scorer in that competition. Perhaps its most important titles are the World Basketball Club Championship of 1979 with the Syrian and the 1987 Pan American Games held in Indianapolis, in which they defeated the United States Basketball National Team by 120 to 115, [ 6 ] Thus, achieving the first victory of a selection against the United States at home, in addition to being the first team that scored more than 100 points.

He was born on February 16 in Natal, Brazil and played in his first team at age 13, in Brasilia where he went to live with his family. At this time his uncle Alonso encouraged him to enter the Vizinhança unit that was trained by Zezao and began playing by measuring 1.85 m. In 1974 he went to São Paulo to play in the Children’s Children of the Society Palmeiras and played in the National Youth Team. In 1977 he was chosen best pivot of the South American youth and at age 19 he began to be part of the Brazilian basketball team with which the South American basketball championship in Valdivia, Chile. After retiring he has worked as a commentator for the television network Rede Globo in Brazil, broadcasting basketball matches.
