Sebastián Ariel Méndez (Buenos Aires, July 4, 1977), known as the Gallego Méndez, is a former soccer player and coach.

It was formed in the lower divisions of the Vélez Sarsfield Athletic Club, with which he debuted in the First Division of Argentina in a match against the Spanish Sports Club, on July 24, 1994. He wore the “V bluved” until 2002 and achieved Watch with three Argentine championships and three other international titles. He played 237 national and international matches, scoring 3 goals.

Four months after his retirement, the Galician He assumed interimly on April 4, 2010 as coach of the San Lorenzo de Almagro Athletic Club after Diego Simeone’s resignation. He debuted on the 7th of the same month in a defeat for 2 to 0 against Banfield, but could not enter the playing field, since he had not completed the coach course.

In 2010 he was Campo de Julio César Falcioni’s assistant at Banfield. With the first leg of Boca Juniors, Méndez assumed the position of coach in January 2011. Later he was Jujuy’s gymnastics technician, where he managed to make a great campaign, but before the tournament finished and while the team was close to the promotion stalls he left the position for extra -economic reasons.

Some time later he was presented as the new coach of Godoy Cruz of the first division of Argentine football and with the aim of “fighting for important things and that the club again between international glasses”, in his own words. [ required appointment ] In the Mendoza club he directed 19 games with 12 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses. In 2017 he arrived in Belgrano where he was fired for bad results.

On May 15, 2018, it was announced that he would be the new Palestinian coach of Chile, for the second wheel of the First Division of Chile 2018 and the Chile Cup of the same year, replacing his compatriot Germán Cavalieri. This was Méndez’s first experience as coach abroad. [ 3 ] In January 2019 he arrived in Colombian football to direct the newly promoted Cúcuta Deportivo in replacement of his compatriot Lucas Pusineri, who had abandoned the position to lead Deportivo Cali. With the border team he had a great start winning the first nine dates and being the leader of the championship, but from date 10 against Atlético Bucaramanga, the decline began when losing the games in a row, finally being in position 11 with 27 points, directing His last game on May 5 with Victoria against Junior de Barranquilla 2-1. Context: In 2008 in a match between San Lorenzo and River Plate in a fortuitous game of the Colombian striker Radamel Falcao García seriously injured Sebastian in one of his knees which left him for a while outside the courts. Months later and already recovered and again in a match between these two Sebastian clubs he gave him a very hard flying kick from the back to Falcao so he was immediately expelled and criticized.
