‘ Eyes like that » -« Eyes Like Yours »In its English version later launched-it is a Latin Arab-pop song performed by the Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, originally included in her second studio album, Where are the thieves? (1998). It was composed of Javier Garza, Shakira and Pablo Flores and launched in October 1999 as the fifth single from the album.
It is one of the most successful Spanish songs in Shakira’s career, in addition to being the single that made it known in several European countries. The version unplugged (unplugged) of the song, played by the singer in her acoustic concert for MTV Latin America in August 1999, is considered by many as the best live presentation of Shakira [ required appointment ] and one of the most emblematic Latin pop. The music of the song was composed of Javier Garza, and the lyrics by Shakira and Pablo Flores. The lyrics, in Spanish, have interludes of songs in Arabic. “Eyes like this” was very popular in Latin America, especially in Brazil, where it became its greatest success since “I am here.” It was also his presentation card in Asia and managed to become a success in Spain (where, curiously, she was never officially launched) and especially the United States, where she impressed so much to the US music market that motivated the singer to work in her first production in English. Today it is a classic of Latin American music and in Spanish, and for many it is the most emblematic song of the Colombian of Lebanese ancestry.
In 2001, Shakira launched its first record work in English called Laundry Service. In this album an English version of “eyes like”, re -written by it and Gloria Estefan, entitled “Eyes Like Yours” . On YouTube you can see a promotional video of the English version under the same concept of the video in Spanish. This song also included those songs in Arabic, but the beginning was subtly different. “Eyes like this” was the first song to mix Arab rhythms with Latin pop-rock.
Eyes like this was the first song that was played on the Mongoose Tour during 2002-2003.

The transcription of the Arab text would be:
“Rabb al-Samaʾi, Philika al-Rajaʾii,
Fi ʿaynayha ‘araa hayatii,
Aati ʾiilayka Min Hadha Al-Kawny,
ʾarjuuk, rabbi laabbii nidaaʾyii.
And its meaning is:
“Lord of heaven, in you is my hope,
In his eyes I see my life,
I come to you from this universe,
Please, sir, answer my call. ”
In the last repetition of the stanza, a more line is added in Arabic, which would be “from Baréin to Beirut”:
“From the two sea to Beren”

The video of the song “Eyes like this” shows Shakira with red hair singing and dancing for a public, with the crowd dressed in a somewhat peculiar way and dancing and singing some verses with Shakira. In the background there is a giant neon eye, which throws sparks. Shakira scenes are also shown in the video clip, dancing the belly dance in front of a purple background. In these scenes there are snakes painted in their arms and red lines painted in their head, also showing in short periods a boa. The video clip was recorded in mid -October of the year 1999. The costumes used was the same one that he used at the Hispanic gala, in October of the same year, which was a gray shirt, dark blue leather pants, and some boots of thick heel.
Regarding the audio of the video, instead of the album version, the version of the single that is of the same duration was used. It also has the version of the song “Single Mix”, which is the audio that has the video of the Shakira account in Vevo. The instruments highlighted in the video are a Sitar, and a guitar and electric bass Danelectro Lonchorn. The man who appears playing the guitar to the side of Shakira is Tim Mitchell. On September 9, 2011, the video was uploaded to its official YouTube account, and has more than 100 million views. On April 24, 2012, an alternative version of the music video was uploaded to Vimeo where new scenes can be seen. The new video is found in 19: 4 and the stage is more appreciated, unlike the original video found in 4: 3. There is also a video clip of the English version of the theme, which was included in the Laundry Service album.
