The Technological University of Chocó Diego Luis Córdoba It is an institution of higher education, important for the department of Chocó, founded in 1972 by “Diego Luis Córdoba”, of Public Regime, its Primpir headquarters is in the south of the city ofquibdó, capital of the department of Chocó, in the neighborhood Nicolás Medrano, has headquarters: in Istmina, Acandi, Bahía Solano, Carmen de Atrato, Tadó; It consists of 27 undergraduate 4 Masters 4 Specialization 1 Doctorate. It was founded under the name of the University Polytechnic Institute “Diego Luis Córdoba” in the year of 1968, however, began academic work in the year of 1972, since the decree of creation of the institution remained in oblivion for four years. In 1975 he changed his name to the current one.
It has 40 undergraduate and 11 postgraduate academic programs.

Through Law 38 of 1968, the Diego Luis Córdoba Polytechnic Institute was created as a tribute to the memory of one of the most illustrious characters in the department of Chocó, who was a defender of the rights of blackness and especially for education to all levels as a social promotion strategy.

In March 1972, the Polytechnic Institute began activities with 203 students who enrolled in six (6) programs like this: Degree in Languages, Mathematics, Physics, Social Sciences and Economics, Chemistry and Biology, Psychopedagogy, Educational Administration and Technology in Business Administration .

Through Law 7 of 1972, the name of the Polytechnic Institute was changed to that of the Technological University of Chocó Diego Luis Córdoba â– UTCH, a situation that allowed him to open new spaces in the approach of new programs in the field of higher education. By 1984, the University had a total of 1345 students and new programs such as agricultural technology, civil works, fishing, mines and the Bachelor of Social Work.

In 1987 there were 1808 students with present, semi-presynt and distance programs and with 190 teachers distributed in time-schedule, part time and full time. For this same year, a departmental civic strike took place, whose result allowed the inclusion of a national budget to initiate the construction of the University Citadel.

Law 30 of 1992 enshrined the university autonomy of the institution and through Resolution No.3274 of June 25, 1993, it was institutionally recognized as a university and allowed it in February 1994 to choose its rector for the first time by democratic route.

In the years 1997 and 1998, postgraduate programs were opened with the following specializations: Specialization in Mathematics Teaching,

Specialization in Pedagogy of the Maternal Language, Specialization in Linguiistics applied to the teaching of English and the Specialization in Attention and Social Education to the family. The study centers of Colombian and indigenous Afro culture are also created, and the Flora Research and the Pacific School of Arts.

Currently, the Technological University of Chocó works at the facilities of the University Citadel located in the municipality of Quibdó, capital of the department of Chocó. Its area of ​​influence extends throughout the departmental territory, to the Pacific region, to the coffee axis and certain municipalities of the Department of Antioquia.
