George Classen – Wikipedia

George Classen , actually Heinz Georg Classen (* 1942 in Lübben), grew up in Berlin from his fourth week of life, is a German painter of modern art.

George Classen was born in Lübben near Berlin in 1942. Already at the age of seven he copied engravings of the old masters of Nuremberg. Soon afterwards, George Classen was inspired by Pablo Picassos or Gustav Klimts without copying them. At the age of 13 he discovered classical music as his second passion, which always accompanied him motivatingly. From 1969 to 1971 there was a graphic training at the “Famous Artist School” in Frankfurt am Main and a few years as a graphic artist in advertising. Since 1979 George Classen has only been a freelance artist and has since had numerous exhibitions in Canada, the USA, Spain, Germany, Austria and Japan. George Classen is married to Eva, who is inspiring with constructive criticism.

“George Classen works have abstract trains, cubist and occasionally surrealistic art (e.g. Robert Delaunay, Pablo Picasso) with some Art Nouveau -like ornaments.” From the “George Classen” report by Petra Breidenstein, 2011 [first]

George Classen believes that every person perceives their environment differently and interpreted differently. He sees the task of an artist in presenting his personal sensation to the viewer – but without imposing his way of looking at it. The viewer should interpret the artist’s work himself and enable a “transformation of the invisible” – that is, make it visible.

George Classen understands the following by his recurring topic “Physiognomic Landscapes”: He obtains lines from the coordinate system of the (mostly) human face, which he supplements with elements such as color and other lines. This creates a connection between autonomous abstractness and the actually real-image. The desired ambiguity should give the viewer the opportunity to stimulate his own imagination.

George Classen uses the title “Coincidence and Need” of a book by the scientist and Nobel Prize winner Jacques Monod as a motto for the creation of his works. “Chance is the distribution of the pulse -controlled lines and colors, the need to coordinate the elements into a coherent whole.” ( George Classen [2] )

“His art is looking for encounter with man, she wants to communicate. […] She tries to achieve the viewer at the level of the affects. […] Painting Classen […] tries to make the inner reality visible in color and shape. […] For him, painting does not mean copying the object, but realizing impressions, i.e. not reproducing nature, but to present it. ”( From the Mostviertler bazaar [3] )

“George Classen’s world of art is dominated by a profound knowledge of classical music and ancient history, transforming his inspiration into endless variations of shape and color by combining acoustics with visual. In this way the reproduction of the obvious is avoided. ”( From the Miami Herald 1991 [3] )

“Some of his works have an ornamentation that resembles works of the Art Nouveau and is like Gustav Klimt or works of peace and frequent hundred water at the level of painting technology.” ( Petra Breidenstein, Expert for Value Report in Berlin sworn in by the IHK [first] )
