パブリック・オカレンシズ（1690年）^[1]

パブリック・オカレンシズ（Publick Occurrences Both Forreign and Domestick）はアメリカで最初に発行された複数ページの新聞。それ以前は、broadsidesと呼ばれる単ページの新聞が1689年にケンブリッジで印刷され、イギリスの植民地で発行されている。第1版は1690年9月25日に当時ドミニオン・オブ・ニューイングランドの都市であったボストンで発行された。毎月の発行および事件が起きればその頻度を上げることを当初は意図していた。ボストンのリチャード・ピアスが印刷し、以前にロンドンで新聞を発行していたベンジャミン・ハリスが編集を行った。サイズが6×10インチの4枚つづりであったが、3枚のみしか記事は書かれていない。

第2版が出ることはなかった。なぜなら、1690年9月29日に植民地政府により発行を禁じられたからである。以下がその命令の内容である。

Whereas some have lately presumed to Print and Disperse a Pamphlet, Entitled, Publick Occurrences, both Forreign and Domestick: Boston, Thursday, Septemb. 25th, 1690. Without the least Privity and Countenace of Authority. The Governour and Council having had the perusal of said Pamphlet, and finding that therein contained Reflections of a very high nature: As also sundry doubtful and uncertain Reports, do hereby manifest and declare their high Resentment and Disallowance of said Pamphlet, and Order that the same be Suppressed and called in; strickly forbidden any person or persons for the future to Set forth any thing in Print without License first obtained from those that are or shall be appointed by the Government to grant the same.^[2]
