The Realschule im Stiftland (RIS) is a state boy secondary school in the Bavarian city of Waldsassen with currently around 340 students. 25 full -time teachers teach there. It is one of three secondary schools in the Tirschenreuth district. The name Realschule im Stiftland , which refers to the situation of the school in the abbey country, was awarded in the school year 2009/10. He becomes the official name State Realschule for Boys Waldsassen preceded. [2]

After the end of the war, access to secondary schools in Eger was no longer possible and since the Cistercians founded a girls’ middle school, the need for a middle school for boys became clear.
On October 9, 1950, the Bavarian state parliament passed the “decision on the establishment of middle schools”. Among them was the middle school for boys in Waldsassen.
Thanks to District Administrator Otto Freundl, Mayor Andreas Bernreuther and the entire city council, school operations under the headmaster Heinrich Meckl were recorded on October 1, 1950. First of all, the first own school building could be obtained after the renovation work was on December 7, 1950.

On January 13, 1958, a first expansion cultivation was inaugurated due to increasing school and class figures. This included the required physics and chemical rooms. However, the problems were not yet solved, since the students were now distributed over three different buildings, which made lessons considerably more difficult. Another cultivation was needed when the four -stage middle school was introduced, which was completed in July 1963. As a result, the shortage of space was solved, but what was the change between the old and new building and the gymnasium of the elementary school.

With the transfer of the sponsorship from the city of Waldsassen to the district of Tirschenreuth, the expansion was realized. After the groundbreaking ceremony in October 1968, the building was obtained the following school year.

The commissioning of the gymnasium in 1973 as well as the outdoor sports facility and the indoor pool in the school year 1973/74 were further improvements for the school. In December 2010, the general renovated gym was inaugurated.

The junior high school has 15 classrooms, a music hall, a chemical hall, a physics hall and a biology hall. There are also two plant rooms and two computer rooms. The junior high school also has an art hall and a student kitchen.

A kiosk is available for meals during breaks. A cafeteria is also available to the students.

Furthermore, a library and an internet café are available to the students. There is a computer in each classroom and a projector on the ceiling.

There is a gym for physical education. Outside there is a soccer field, a career (100 meters long), two long jump facilities and a fenced basketball court. There is a climbing wall and a sun sail on the newly designed school playground.
