St. Marien-hospital hamm – Wikipedia

The St. Marien Hospital Hamm is a Catholic hospital in Hamm with 13 specialist departments at two locations. It is a company of SJG St. Paulus GmbH.

During the cholera epidemic in the summer of 1849, the cooperative of the “Merciful Sisters of St. Vincenz from Paul” sent nurses for outpatient care in Hamm. The cooperative thus followed a reputation of the St.Agnes community. From this task, the St. Marien Hospital Hamm was founded by the sisters of St. Vincenz on December 18, 1849. After a few extensions, the parts of the building were built from 1924 to 1928, which represent the basic substance of today’s house. During the Second World War, the hospital was destroyed 70 percent by air strikes. The construction work progressed quickly and 350 beds were again available for the 100th anniversary of the hospital.

The renovations continued in the following years. In this context, the sister dormitory (1976) should be mentioned as well as the 1st construction phase of the operating room, the new construction of the Clinic for Nuclear Medicine and finally the construction of the Psychiatric Clinic in 1993-1995.

In 1984 the St. Marien Hospital Hamm took over the St. Elisabeth children’s clinic on the north wall from the sponsorship of the parish of St. Agnes. The Bundesknappschaft hospital in Knappenstrasse was also taken over this year by the St. Marien Hospital. In 1999 the St. Elisabeth children’s clinic opened in the clinic for children and adolescents in Hamm.

Since 2011, the hospital has been a company of SJG St. Paulus GmbH (before the Catholic St. Johannes Society Dortmund gGmbH), which has been in conjunction with other Catholic clinics in the Ruhr area since 2021 under the roof of the Catholic St. Paulus Society.
